Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia danielkeyes02... young lad gets on the bus and strolls up to his seat to see me!! Next thing I know the driver is up too and trying to explain we have to move and then I shrug my shoulders , smile sweetly and hand over my ticket so the guy knows where to sit!! Hilarious then when Carolyn turns over and goes straight to sleep for the whole journey whilst I sit awake in 3am Ramadan traffic jams and stop at religious toilets to pay some pope like creature to have a wee wee!!
Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia kaixin_smile... Then I saw the biggest cockroach I'd ever seen in my life and proclaimed there was no way I could possibly shower in there! We lay on the beds (and slept!) for a few hours before beating a retreat to a much nicer and friendlier hotel further up the road (with only small ants to contend with, a typical pest in this climate).

The next day we did a walking tour of K.B. - some nice museums and walking round ...
Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia martynandsarah... smaller cars and the odd SUV, but not in the same numbers as Thailand. The Malaysian people are lovely, extremely friendly and helpful and most people we meet speak really good English. Just as well, because my Malay is basic to say the least. About 50kms along the road we bumped into another cyclist (name unknown) a Kiwi who has been travelling around South East Asia. He was going to the Perhentian Islands and while we got some ...
Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia 50odd... that in fact the Chinese did everything before and gave all information to the barbarian Europeans in order to start the Renaissance). It turns out that Leanardo de Vinci was not really an inventor, but an excellent artist. The Chinese gave Italy a pocket sized encyclopedia on all things relevant so the dumb Europeans could sail to China to pay tribute. This book was a small summary of the great encyclopedia that took like 85 years to make and was held in the ...
Perhentians, Malaysia mericanomad... are curious and friendly and there is a good level of english. Public transport is extremely cheap! Sometimes the bus drivers think they are at the race track. The drive on the left and the power sockets are the same as home, no adapter necessary. ATMs and money changers are wide spread. It is a Muslim country and alcohol is expensive and sometimes difficult to come by. Mainly, you will get it in the Chinese places. Although the ...
Kota Bharu, Malaysia faff... a bit more extreme than i thought. It conisted of loads of rope bridges tied to trees 40 metres abvove the ground. As im not the biggest fan of heights this was pure terror and athough the views were good and the it was a novelty i didnt enjoy a single minuite of it. I just kept on thinking that i didnt trust the people who built it and i was going to plunge to my death any minute! Whilst walking in the jungle we saw loads of wildlife like snakes, boar kind of tyhings ...
Kota Bharu, Malaysia russellffcJust a day stopover. After the island, the mainland was a bit of a disappointment. There had been no cars or much noise where we had been the last week, and the temperature was much cooler, with a constant sea breeze. But here we are, and we have to make the most of it. This afternoon, and/or tonight we are ...
Kota Bharu, Malaysia mattandnicole... jellyfish after just 5mins in the sea, but spirits remained high and we were determined to not be put off the sea! The evenings were quiet on the island but we heading over the Long Beach on our second night where we drank a lot of Monkey Juice (vanilla flavoured whisky) with the locals and met 2 guys from Manchester who were also travelling. Partied hard til 2am but then had to ...
