Our Lady of Deliverance Procession

... for all the blessings of a good year, and to offer prayers for the next year, one that occurs each year on the Sunday after Christmas.

My rushing around for a good vantage point--I found several--soon turned into a feeling of being an intruder into a highly personal, sacred event, with which tourist cameras were definitely not compatible. When Dianne heard the music, she had also quickly left to see what was happening, but with an entirely ...

... we rose above Tavira's sea level, catching sight of the ocean in the distance as we moved higher and higher.

We stopped first to visit a Bonzai Garden which Marcela knew about, but learned after driving up a two- or three-kilometer long, rough driveway that the garden was "not open for tourists" unless they make an advance reservation by phone. ... same place where the 1 Euro sign was placed, and that this elephant was 5 Euro. By then it was wrapped up and ready to go. So, that is what we got!! As an aside, while in Portugal, we've learned to drink coffee without milk while adding sugar is now the thing to do!

This little snafu was more than offset by the purchase of a crochet made by the mother of another vendor. It was only 2 Euros, and beautiful! Seems that girls learn to crochet ...
