... guys when I asked if I could take a photo, I made my way to Fort Jesus. Built by the Portugese in 1593, it is now a ruin, but still impressive to visit, with wonderful views of the old harbour - so they could check out who was coming to invade them of course. Mostly though, I was merely blown away by the fact that it was not actually 'built', but carved out of a huge block of dead coral, taking 4,000 men 3 years. ... were there for 'classroom management'. The main objective of the day was to get the children to understand what a 'simile' is and to be able to make one up. Easy! Not so much. They all seemed to understand the concept when we were discussing it as a class (although I'm sure probably at least half of them weren't listening) however, when it came to writing some examples in their exercise books I got a funny array of sentences...
