This cafe is well known as a meeting place for Hollywood stars.

Cortona has very narrow and steep streets, purrfect for pets.
Finally we arrived back at Arezzo and after booking a haircut for myself tomorrow (the hairdresser doesn't speak English so that will be exciting) I am sitting at the La Dolce Vita cafe writing this entry while Jane is off looking at the shops (gulp)
Not sure how she is going to carry both but I''m sure she will work it out.Walking past the Duomo, we then ventured onto the Ponte Vecchio, the old bridge over the Arno river. The shops on the bridge were almost entirely gold and jewellry shops, not many punters inside them thoughTomorrow we will attempt a day trip in the Panda, wish us luck

Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy corny15... an exploratory sortie of about 100km and 4 hours..

Eventually we somehow made it to the designated free parking area, which is situated about 10 minutes walk from our place. This is because the old walled town has restricted vehicle access due the narrow confines of the medieval streets. After a restorative cup of tea (see, we don ...

After successfully boarding the train for a two hour ride to Arezzo (Rome's Stationale Termini was a challenge!), we arrived at our new digs “Casa San Martino”. After a confusing discussion with some older Italian ladies where none of knew what the other were saying, we were greeted by our host Ricardo. This apartment is in theancient Etruscan town of Arezzo, population of 100,000 about ...

We still had about half an hour before the bus departed and both Anne and I had to go to the bathroom. So, we stopped in at another bar and got some food just so we could ask to use their bathroom. Then, we made it back to the bus station, hopped up and down in the cold until the bus came, and took the ride back to Siena.
Arezzo, Italy fminonne... snapped a good one (see pics section). I was roundly admonished, but simply pleaded ignorance ("But I'm just a stupid American" - it's what they think anyway) and put my camera in my backpack. The important is that I got the shot. The rest of the gallery was great, even though there's not a whole lot else to it. There was an impressive collection of other statues and studies for larger works in one room. Another hall contained some very nice medieval and renaissance paintings ...
Firenze, Italy danschedler... that they could purchase wine, but none was available. This lead to part two of lunch, sitting outside for wine and munchies. I actually was forgotten about when the wine was ordered, but I didn't need it anyway. However, I did take advantage of some of the munchies. I must say, the Italians certainly know how to enjoy wine. After lunch we walked back to Uffizi. On my first day in Florence I saw a man selling small tripods near Ponte Vecchio, I missed my ...
Florence, Italy sjg209... t really into art, but I can see how even the most unsophisticated eye can look at the David and know he's a masterpiece. I'm in the middle of the Agony and the Ecstacy, a book on the life of Michelangelo, and I know he was only 26 when he was given a leftover block of marble that others had given up on, to create a statue to celebrate the glory of Florence. I am most impressed by the ...
