Dusty days and dusty nights, Man we are in the middle of the desert today. The sites we visited were simply dusty mounds of dirt. Hard to get excited about until you tell yourself this is the cradle of civilisation and you should be interested. In any case enjoy the photos.
Al Bukamai, Syria mikeandfiAn early start and we headed off to what many say is the best Crusader Castle in the Middle East, Krak des Chevaliers. The castle was originally started by Romans and updated by the Arabs in the 700's. As the crusades progressed, the castle was captured ...
Le Krak de Chevalier, Syria mikeandfiWell I have had a busy old day thats for sure. I headed off on an organised trip through he Riad hotel to see Crac des Chevaliers an 10th century castle and a highlight of Syria. I am not really one for organised tours but it is the easiest and best way to see it. We did a couple of stops on the way to see Musyaf castle and a monastery which were OK but the highlight was defiantly Crac. This is what I had been waiting to see a ...
Crac des chevaliers, Syria richardcowleyMarch 12, Thursday Castle Day. We are off on a tour to a couple of Castles in the area. We meet Anthony from northern England, Gilles from Paris bus working in Dublin, and Laura from Canada who works in Soul, Korea as an English Teacher. We are off through the hilly country side, it is a sunny day and very enjoyable, we see lots of orchards and sheep on the sides of the narrow roads. Our first stop is at Musyaf to view the old castle here. It is a maze of ...
Hama, Syria dancejillMarch 11 Wednesday The manager came and woke us up and told us breakfast was ready. He knew we were going to go today, so I guess he wanted us to be up and on our way. We had breakfast, packed up and Len went to pay him. I could hear them talking inside, but didn't pay too much attention. We asked him to get us a taxi and he said the taxi was closed and to walk to the museum area to get one. We were just about to the museum when a man stopped and picked us up and took ...
Deir Ezzor, Syria madspetersen... that fit perfectly the oasis surroundings as it wound its way serenely past the town. The semi distance was rich with palm trees and an array of other greens and in the far distance slept quietly the desert, its barren solitude making this town seem almost incongruous in its fecundity. As the sun began to fall, its somnolent rays painted the horizon a hazy orange, and the waters of the Euphrates basked in its glow. On the banks of the river the lines of palm trees ...
