We carried on thru Wisconsin but on the spur of a moment we decided to make a little detour north, to the Smoky Hills. Michelle found a State Forrest that sounded interesting. This whole area is covered with many Lakes large and small, but one hardly travels for a couple of miles without seeing water. The main village is called Detroit Lakes which lies on a very large lake. We passed thru there and later found the sign for our Forrest. It was a ...

... with all amenities and very private sites. Dinner was prepared on the camp fire and after sitting around the fire till late we retired. As usual we left our cooler outside, but this time there must have been Raccoons around, as this morning when we woke up our cooler was on the floor lying on it’s side. ... from there, the go-karts, roller coasters, mini golf, etc... Now the entire town is a theme park. It's like living in Disneyland with camp grounds.
The dogs are in heaven because there are lots of squirrels. Dash REALLY wants to catch one!
Oh yea, did I tell you about the trains?? Uh huh, every few hours a train goes right next to our camp. It shakes the whole coach. The have all been over 125 cars long. Yay! Hopefully they will stop running at ...

    Deeper Into the Northwoods

We got out of Rochester a little late, but headed north again, and a little east. We crossed the Mississippi River at Wabasha, MI, then headed north into Wisconsin. We pulled into Durand, WI on the shores of the Chippewa River and found a pleasant bar and grill called the Thirsty Catfish with a great deck outside overlooking the river and a decent selection of Wisconsin brewed ...
