Bern is certainly a historic city and for sure one of the best preserved historic city's I have ever come across. Many of the roads are still cobbles and lined with old fashioned buildings. Monuments and fountains line the streets. The main city is built high up on the cliff edge above a large river which is in a very deep cutting. Large steel and stone bridges span this river and certainly give a historic feel to it ...

... and older model, and not fitted with "safety doors". As the Elevator moves, it's possible to touch the wall which is moving past. Entry to the Elevator is on the front, but exit is on the right side.

The Clerk provided two keys for the room. One of them is used to activate the Elevator for the floors that have rooms. Floors 3, 4 & 5 can only be reached by using the key to activate the Elevator to that floor. After my long walk with a heavy Pack, ...
