Gardiner, Montana, United States vera_und_alex... below the road. More buffalo were grazing and once more a traffic jam ensued because the bull was using the southbound lane. And I saw elk. One just grazing by the house near the Mammoth parking lot. A small herd by the other parking lot. They like the Mammoth area and stage their rutting battles there. On the way back to the hotel there was a small herd of elk in the riverside grasses, one still swimming and the rest feeding.
West Yellowstone, Montana, United States visionriderOld Faithful didn't disappoint.

Saw a beautiful bison at sunset.

Good
riding but the traffic made it more exhausting than necessary.
Apparently Yellowstone National Park gets 30,000+ visitors PER DAY!

More to come later... just wanted to post pics now while i have high-speed connection.
West Yellowstone, Montana, United States bonthorn... we were not complaining. This was fun. Give us encounters like this any day and twice on Sundays. Stopped first at Biscuit Basin for a quick wander through the thermal pools. The Cliff Geyser was erupting when we arrived, which elicited lots of "cool" and "awesome" comments from Zac. His first geyers. We learned that more than half of the worlds thermal features are right here and at six, he gets to see most of those on offer. After finishing at ...
West Yellowstone, Montana, United States cdcass... pile, dragging him against his will into the nearest restuarant, not really a family affair, but it sounded ok from the outside (and they served Moose Drool beer - that sounded intriguing). We sat on the sticky seats we were shown to and took the sticky menus we were handed. The server (remembering no waitresses in these parts either) poured three sticky glasses of water from a sticky plastic jug and then said she would give us a few moments to consider ...
West Yellowstone, Montana, United States cdcass... opeten.
Old faithfull, Montana, United States alfredensusanne... a couple of times and then dropped Christa off to see what was going on (there were Rangers there) I finally found a creative parking place along the road. The big stir was a huge bull elk that was down feeding and resting in the creek bed below. We got some good photos and by the time we were done some parking opened up at the picnic area. We had a windy picnic lunch near the creek (we purchased a cooler to leave at the rental house for the ...
West Yellowstone, Montana, United States linusvpeltSnowed last night and left a layer of ice outside our cabin and all over the car. As well, the volume of snow resulted in the roads being closed into Yellowstone. We started a little later therefore than was originally planned but hey, that was OK because the cabin we were in was so comfortable it was great. The fire was gas fired and thermostatically controlled so during the night it turned itself ...
West Yellowstone, Montana, United States judencharlie... park and walk around. 10:10 - Back from the walk. We saw three of four different hot springs. We had to stay on the boardwalk since these springs are over boiling temperature. They smelled really bad like rotten hard boiled eggs but they were still interesting to see. Keith cracked up at a dog in the driver's seat just sitting there in a parked van. He took a picture. I had to rescue Brett's new roll of film since he dropped it off of the boardwalk. 10:19 - Passing by ...
Yellowstone, Wyoming, United States couchonbpI headed into Livingston and stopped at the Safeway to look for a phone book. My recurring van problems were recurring and I wanted to fine an auto parts store. I saw a couple spots and went downtown to the business district. Before I got started I took a break at Daylight Donuts for a coffee and donut. As the name says it is only open mostly during daylight hours so I don't consider it a real donut joint ($.40). It had to do ...
