... and friends watch psychology lectures from Yale on a weekly basis. I considered making my students positive reinforcement (the good job stuff) and the negative punishment (the bad job stuff) shrouded in mystery. So I look for the sticky note pad to cover the behavioral psychology tools I'm using. This will allow the students to work to be the ...
Uijeongbu, Korea Rep. morpheous... Once at school the students arrived in a few at a time. There were princesses, good spider mans (to which I would have web wars in the hall ways with), transformers, vampires, soldiers, and all kinds of little ones dressed up. I told stories to each of the 5 and 6 year old classes while my colleagues ran games. I took my students through the haunted house in the gym we made the night prior. I ended up carry little Losa and holding ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. morpheous... to Cantonese. So for some words I can make out what it says and what it means and the rest was just on trial and error.
The directions given by the people at Bong House were extremely accurate. I had no issues with finding the place at all and in no time I had caught up with Ming and Xian. We loitered in our room for a bit coz Ming was resting and I was unpacking but then decided to go out to eat. We found a Korean restaurant nearby and asked ...
... Unfortunately...only two Americans have agreed with this observation (one was my sister, so maybe there is something to it :) ).
But another ego boost was at Minjok. I had so many students tell me that I was handsome. I don't know if they were just saying this. And, even though they are just kids, it made me feel good. Who doesn't like to hear compliments? :)
... in the subway, but the shopping centers (huge buildings with floors and floors of shops) was proving futile. Too expensive.
And I was getting a bit tired of how shop owners were calling out to me in English. I guess I understand. But they were being very familiar. "Hey, buddy! Come look at my clothes!". I answered them in Korean. I even told one that I didn't want to speak English. So funny ...
It's definitely been awhile since I last wrote. I've actually started to write many times, but there's so much to say, so much I've been experiencing on many different levels that it can be difficult to know where to start, and how to end. But, here it goes....
I've been here for 4 months now. I can't believe it's already been 4 months! And I can't believe it's only been 4 months! That appears to be the paradox I am currently experiencing.
Overall, my experience ...
... crystal clear and you could see the uninhabited islands and the craggy rocks jutting out of the sea and imagine how it must be for those who do the around the world voyages by sailboat or ship. From the air it is possible to capture the interconnectedness of the globe and how big, yet small it really is. I can only imagine that it is these nights that pilots really appreciate their chosen profession. Then the woman, who had had the window seat on ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. everywhere... We went out for another barbecue after work, even though I had to wake up early on Saturday morning. I'd decided to get out of Seoul for the first time, and mark my birthday by doing something special. So accompanied by Eun ju, we took the train to Suwon, a city about half an hour away from Seoul. My students had warned me not to go as it was "boring," but Juli had insisted that it was one of her favourite trips - the kids were probably bored ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. rich... do not wait! And the motor cycles ride on the sidewalks and in the crosswalks! I met some more Western teachers today. They are getting more interested in us, so we might have more friends within a few weeks. Keep your fingers crossed! So, I am in Gwanak-Gu. It's not the prettiest part of the city, but in a city of 11 million people it is impossible to find a really nice area that is also affordable. I am south of the Han River on Line 2 at a stop called Seoul ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. april.abate... numerous bystanders, he pointed out the locations of shallow graves, and even pantomimed his murders with dummies and a rubber knife.
Months later, despite the media's waning attention, his story and image have deeply disturbed Korean consciousness, where violent crime is relatively rare. In fact, it's a credit to Korean society that he was not harassed by a blood-thirsty mob, like those who attacked the police vans carrying the pre-pubescent killers of William ...
