We are staying here for another day. We aren't sure yet where we will go after this. But there are several places that we are considering, including Orleans, Blois and Chinon. It was a watery sun this morning. Lunch with Sue and Tony in Les Rairies. It is so good to catch up with someone who has been a friend for over 40 years. The rain started after lunch and we quickly did the shopping we needed before heading back to Monty. We found when we were at a previous aire, ...

We then visited the Château de Chinon (built in the 11th century) which is famous for having a connection to Joan of Arc and it was also the prison for some of the Knights Templar in the 14th century. After a stop at a local village for lunch we visited a troglodyte village which was fascinating. These were the homes of the workers who excavated the stone used to build the castles in the Loire Valley. They are homes (caves) built ...

... did a bit of shopping.

Another nice day but a bit cooler. We went up into the town to the bakers and the butchers where we got the most delicious meat. After lunch, we walked along the river bank to the lock. It is all very lovely and the houses opposite the Aire are to die for. It was very busy and we now know why we were told not to be too late getting there as you are at risk of not getting a ...

Went for a drive to explore some more castles today. Went to Blois and Chambord. While Chenonceau is rated as the nicest castle to visit in the Loire, I think the honors should really go to Chateau Chambord. It is the epitome of what a castle is. It is quite magnificent, and so is the French countryside.

After a morning of castle touring we drove back to Paris (Scott's favourite thing to do!). He paid for a full tank of gas from ...
