Without a shadow of doubt, my most abiding memory of the French leg of my Via Francigena is of the Commonwealth War Graves I passed by and stayed a while on my journey through northern France. I knew this would be a poignant experience, not least because 2014 is the centenary of the start of the Great War.

I thought this latest blog entry would be all about my rest day in Besancon but I'd much rather focus on what happened to me yesterday on my journey to Ornans, a small town roughly 25kms on from the big city.
