... destination of St Malo on the Brittany Coast. A short detour took us to the medieval village of Josselin with its impressive castle on the river. So to St Malo...a wander down the boardwalk...seduced by a sea food restaurant, huites (oysters) and the best ever noix (scallops) and crepes suzette - a fitting finale for France! Just time to walk around the ramparts of the old town in the warm evening twilight (at 10 pm!). Merci Beaucoup de St Malo, Au Revoir ...

... to visit a museum about Avranches during the War and then Skyped at the tourist office. We then headed north up the peninsular for the start of our beach holiday. First stop was St Jean Le Thomas, a quiet seaside resort on the opposite side of the bay to Mont St Michel. We parked outside the Aire where two jockeys were trotting on horses. Anna and Ben went for a swim while the rest of us beachcombed. We then moved on and walked along the promenade above the beach ...

We popped in to see Paul and Averil to work out the plans for the ...

Getting out of our car in the farthest reaches of the parking lot the heat hit us. It was smoking hot, luckily we got to cram into a bus sardine style instead of walking the 5 km through the muddy wastelands to get into the Mont a Unesco heritage site. It was pretty fabulous from far away it was cool up close too but the thousands of people cramming around you, kind of took something away from the experience. We shoved our way up the steep winding ramp past gift shops, hotels ...

After a breakfast and a load of washing we finally got going about 10.30am and by the time we had driven to Le Mont Saint Michel and parked it was close to 11.30am. We got the shuttle bus across to the island as there is a lot of roadwork going on as they redevelop the approach to the Mont for an opening next year. Today when we arrived the tide was still quite high and it was easy to see that when the water was up at high tide how it would look quite spectacular with the ...
