... facts including how many rooms - apparently heaven has 10,000 rooms and the emperor is the son of heaven so he needed 9,999.5 rooms, not quite heaven but close. While in the Forbidden City we had the experience of feeling very foreign - it is summer holidays over here and many country Chinese are in Beijing for their holidays. Today was the day. Ihad circled this on the itinerary 6 months ago. Today we visited the Great Wall. I'll admit that I was a bit giddy when the bus pulled into the parking lot. ... asks for mine as well. She does something in her computer and takes a picture of the X-ray with the pen circled then scanned our passports and boarding passes and handed them back along with the pens.

I believe we have just been marked as spies. Should we ever return to China and actually enter the country I believe we will be shown directly to the second screening process or denied entry.

... nice atmosphere, good service, and great food (except the duck). We had eddoes (little white, sweet things filled with a variety of fruit jelly), deep fried spinach, Kung Pau Chicken pizza that was delicious, and a basket of duck which was oily and not very good, especially after our Peking duck the night before. ... to the Square and back. We found an interesting alley way tonight off a shopping mall. It seemed to be the place for the locals to hang out. We came across a stall selling fried scorpions on sticks. Before they were cooked their legs and claws were still moving. I moved on quite quickly. Macca's chips were much more inviting for dinner.
