    I forgot to say that as I lingered in the st marks campanile until the nice man chucked the stragglers out ( I say nice because I clearly passed as fluent enough to be responded to with 'see you, cheers' the normally silenced bells started. At first I thought they were ringing muffled but they were just winding up! Scared the bejesus out of me. Great experience ...

    Venchi for gelato at least three different times. Favorite is Cremino 1878 (alternate layers of fresh gianduja with delicious hazelnuts; product exclusively of Piedmont Hazelnuts IGP). Love their descriptions of the flavors!

    Arrived at our accommodation - Taverna San Lio - after a few twists and turns. "Turn left then turn right" seems to be the universal direction for anywhere in Venice!     ... for us not for the obvious reason of being in Venice and seeing the beautiful sights but because of the illegal street vendors. There were people trying to sell knock off purses, sunglasses, and other goods to tourists. They were quite pushy and would occasionally trap people trying to get them to buy their goods. The best part for us came when, the police walked by. The men selling things (about 7 of them) all grabbed their things in one big swoop ...

    ... with gorgonzola and I ate a beautiful steak dressed with a sage, rosemary, lemon and bay leaf sauce. Magnifico!! Not bad for a walk-in from the street. Since they had John Laws business card as one of only two from Australia in their collection I gave them one of mine!!!

    The Museum of Venice on San Marco provided a necessary pause for the WC but that was not our destination, so we searched on for the Palazzio ?? that held a pretty dull exhibition ...
