... and would have been ungrateful not to! Malta has strong Sicilian influences which is reflected in the food. I thought of you, Margaret, as I tucked into a cannoli, a Maltese speciality (tube of pastry filled with ricotta custard etc) in a shady square. As we were leaving to reboard the ship, the canons on the cliff were firing a farewell! And I wished Josh, who is studying the crusades ...

... combinations up on the spot for us - the sautéed mushroom, goats cheese and prosciutto was one to remember. Delicious. All this walking and eating had taken its toll so in true italian style 3pm was Siesta time for us too. A couple of hours later we couldn't miss our favourite time of the day, appertivo. Canal-side cocktails and pizza while watching the sunset over Venezia was the perfect way to end our time here.

... a beautiful day, and the be wandering around such an amazing place made it that much better! Simply being in a city is enough for me! Avoiding the tourist traps and just wandering and exploring is almost more enjoyable than trying to pack your days full of museums and excursions. Walking down the streets and just observing your surroundings and taking it all in is so important! We made it back to our hostel with a little more ...

Waking up about 8am, we decided to get on the road and travel for a bit before stopping for breaky. With about 5 hours to cover before we hit Venice we were in for a long day on the road and were keen to get started.

Travelling through small towns along the way, we reached Venice early afternoon, finally got around to cleaning and airing out the camper in some fine weather and settled in for the night, keen to explore the city in the morning.

Day 23 - I never queued up for patience.

... ordered lasagne. Oh. Sorry. Did I say lasagne? Oh no no I mean I ordered watery sheets of pasta with a bit of tomato and no meat. no there was no cheese. Charly ordered a salmon pasta. And it was pretty cool! The only salmon pasta in the world with no pasta. OF COURSE I complained. We sent the food back and asked for the bill. The dishes were €12. Ain't NOBODY got time for that. A small walk later we returned to a small little place we had seen tucked under s nice ...
