    Friday 11 Sep 15 – Xiamen

Arrived in Xiamen (~Zowmin) right on time at 7am to a rather smoggy morning – but fine. Had to get moving early as we had to be ready to leave the ship for our tour of Xiamen at 7am, so breakfast was at 6am and a 5:30am wakeup. Couldn't see much of a difference between it and universities in England, but it was a pretty walk around the lake. For dinner I tried the Xiamen speciality which is basically sandworms in jelly. Warm, relaxing, entertaining, good food and plenty to see. It has felt like a lot longer than three days. I am sure the lack of cars/bikes has a lot to do with ...

... lane ways. Unfortunately our planned guide was a no show, so while we didn't get to see the botanical gardens, we were able to have more time to wander the heart of the city and it certainly showed to be a first world city, with modern amenities and a rich cultural heritage.
The people were extremely welcoming and we didn't see the crowds we expected as most streets were wide walking boulevards that were only moderately busy. We then ventured onto ...

... a souvenir shop and went and bought some special biscuits that are only produced for special occasions once a month and they are meant to bring you wealth!!!( yes should have bought lots of these!!)
Next we were back on the bus and headed towards the beach. Again we were having to cross another busy road but made it, dodging cars and buses!! Down on the top of the hill, was a Buddah statue which overlooked the sea so he was the Sea Buddah. We were able ...
