    Yellow water, smokey room

Our stay was a bit of a disappointment. The room stank of smoke, particuarlily annoying as we had asked for a non smoking room specifically. When we asked at reception, they said they had no non smoking rooms left.
The room itself was ok, but the water coming out of the bathroom taps was yellow. I dont mean it had a yellowy tinge, it was completely yellow.
The area the hotel is in is good, but I would choose one of the others nearby.

After spending most of the morning looking up things to do, we made like a fetus, and headed out into Moscow. The Metro stations here are really ornate so we wanted to try and get some sneaky photos of them if we could and head over to Red square to see all the sites.

We got to Red square and found a Christmas market right in the middle. …

It's 4:00am and we are in the car on the drive to Gatwick airport.
We have planned to fly to Moscow, get the Trans-Siberian railway to Novosibirsk (Siberia) and watch the ice speedway racing, then return on the train and fly from Moscow to Berlin, then travel back to England by train stopping off at Stuttgart and Brussels on the way for the …

Arriving in Moscow via the night train (now down to 4 per compartment, hurray!) we dumped the bags before heading to Red Square ("beautiful square" in old Russian).

Helena the local guide took us around the Kremlin. She's a pensioner who has lived through many of the changes and shared her views. Looks like when communism crashed, so did …

    The Spirit of Moscow

... back to the hostel we follow a different route next to the river. At first it is OK to stroll on the grass below the Kremlin walls but later we a stuck next to a roaring 8 lane road that runs alongside the river which is slow moving, brown and banked with stark granite canal walls. By the time we flop down our beds we are exhausted, hot and not very enthralled by our first experience of Moscow.

We intend to find a local restaurant for dinner but are amazed at ...
