We just missed the bus this morning, so had to stand in the gently falling snow for about 15 mins. It wasn't so bad, as we watched the people going about their day - the man shoveling snow from in front of his shop, the old lady trying to cross the busy road with no pedestrian crossing or lights, the well dressed lady sneaking into the grog shop and trying to hide her purchases when she came out, and the two flocks of Canada ...
... some buildings had 12 metres of water at their lower levels, but the water was not seen at ground level, all of it unfolded underground. They had to shut down all gas and electrical lines to the city centre for fear of electrical wiring shorting out. They couldn't even figure out where the water was coming from until a radio reporter noted a whirlpool effect near the Kinzie Bridge, and the fact that there were fish swimming in the basement of the Mercantile Mart! Not a water ...
The full day in Detroit was mentally/spiritually invigorating, but also energy-sapping. We even decided before bed that we should wake up early, have a half-hour of English lessons, then hit the gym for a workout to keep the mind and the body focused and clear for our 4-hour leg to Chicago. After the workout, we had breakfast at the hotel, and only an hour later we had breakfast number two at Marie Ann Arbor's in Ann ...
... onto the edge for grim death. Thankfully, this time there were no hangers on (well apart from me hanging onto the wall) and I was able to get that over and done with. I can reassure you all that despite confronting my fear head on I'm still absolutely **** scared of heights. With that done it was back down to Quincy Loop station (via the super fast lift and not one but two souvenir shops).
