I took the scenic route to Minneapolis, which meant driving along the Mississippi River from La Crosse, Wisconsin up to Red Wing, Minnesota (where the shoes come from, apparently). It was indeed very scenic.

The Plan: Breakfast at Hells Kitchen, stroll the Nicollet Mall and historic district What really happened - Unusually for us, we have made a reservation for breakfast. The place is Hells Kitchen and the ricotta and lemon pancakes at are as good as Trip Advisor reviewers report.
