Now, I understand that the whole European Union thing was intended, in part, to make travel between countries easier, but I can’t help feel that there’s a big security hole not going filled. We’ve now touched three European countries and haven’t been asked to show a passport since moving from one plane to another in Iceland …

... though. We figure it is because their winters are so long and cold they need shelter for their stock.

We searched on-line high and low to find a reasonably priced hotel or B & B and ended up reserving one on the Island of Oland, Sweden so we turned up the east side and headed north. The countryside is agricultural, neat and tidy. ...

It was time for Helen & Dave to undertake their return journey, catching the 08:35 bus from Kalmar bus station(less than 5 minutes' walk from the boat) back to Stockholm and thence via Ryanair to Stanstead. After breakfast we walked with them to the bus stop and awaited its arrival. It had been a good week, we all (I think) enjoyed it and they are certainly welcome back again sometime in the future, should they wish to, that is!

      Once they’d ...
