    Today we drove to Newcastle and went to see Hadrian's wall at Wallsend because that was where the wall started. It was the site of a Roman fort called Segendunum and I got a Roman coin with Hadrian on it.

    ... in plenty of time, whereupon we joined 50000 springbok fans and the 5000 scots who weren't too cheap to shell out the big coin, in watching a great battle and an amazing Scottish try. A few beers later (but no Newcastle brown ale to be found!), I was back on the standing room only first class train back to London, arriving around midnight. Managed to watch.     ... local Honda shop in town for a new set of touring boots which of course meant going right through Edinburgh city centre!!!

    With new boots on I set off out of town and onto the by-pass and finally onto the A68 towards Jedbrugh.
