I left my hometown in Winterset, Iowa, on August 26th, which was also the day of my 23rd birthday, mainly for a poetic start. My father had planned to join me on his Victory Vegas for the first week of the trip before driving back to the farm in Iowa. This did not stop off-pavement travel, however it was generally not intentional.

First stop was the pride and joy of Winterset, the birthplace of John Wayne. Although I've already seen it countless ...

... daily mileage is also exceeding expectations. The baseline was 600 mi/day, which we've beat both days. Couldn't resist a stop at the headquarters of the reality show "American Pickers" in Le Claire, IA. Picked up a couple souvenirs and took some pics.

The Camino is referred to as 'The road of Reflection', so maybe we will figure this ...

... nice and open, and loading in was a breeze, minus the fact that we were in an arena and had a rolling stage. The reason this is an issue is that most of our equipment has to be fork-lifted onto the stage. luckily, there was enough room for us to put in a ramp for quickly removing equipment small enough to go down a ramp.

Otherwise, the show went off very well, with load-out simple enough. On to our next adventure outside of Indianapolis.

    Recovering in Des Moines

After the exertions of the Iowa State Fair and the pool hall the previous evening we laid low today. Went and saw a movie, visited the downtown area and ate dinner at Jethro's BBQ restaurant. It was featured on the TV show Man vs Food for its humongous burger...we went for the ribs and wings and were still eating the leftovers the next day. ...
