Historical Traveler Reviews BEST WESTERN Oakland Park Inn Fort Lauderdale
Please note: We DID NOT stay at the inn, so this is just a caution. I reserved on line, and clearly my fault, I didn't change the month box, so instead of a Feb. 12 reservation, it showed Jan. 12. And I didn't discover it until Jan. 16. I phoned right away and explained, but to no avail. I would certainly take the room for Feb 12, but the manager said they were sold out. The 800 number showed that not to be true, and a lovely woman from customer service tried to swap dates for me. But the manager would not consider it, even though she had space open, and I'd offered alternate dates too. I'd think guests would deserve a little more consideration. We all make mistakes, and it would have been good PR to meet me half way.
Didn't love it
We stayed one night at this hotel (motel?). We were downstairs next to the tiki bar which wasn't the best experience because you can hear EVERYTHING going on in the bar. Luckily for us Hurricane Rita was blowing by so most people decided to leave the bar area. The room was renovated with weird modular furniture, the floors were SOAKED with humidity, my shoes were entirely damp the next morning and truely we felt like we slept in a basement. The AC is LOUD, the customer service was unfriendly.
Lastly the area of the city was undesirable and left us originally thinking, why did we come here (although we were evacuated from Key West so not much of a choice). All in all, we stayed there because we had to find something quick. But in no way does this hotel live up to other Best Western's. They seem to be very inconsistant so we probably will not be staying in them any more.
Very nice hotel
We endd up staying here by chance, after driving up from Key West a day early, so we knew nothing about the standard of this hotel. However, we were extremely pleased with what we got, especially after staying in the Fairfield Inn up the road the next night which was awful.
The location was very good, just off the federal highway, very close to the first stop of the water taxi (route A) and very close to shopping and food.
The staff at reception couldn;t have been nicer or more helpful. We had a complimentary drink at the bar on arrival. The hotel was lovely and quiet, and the pool area was great. The room was very nice, quite small. The hotel is now under new management so I can only assume other bad reviews were from staying under previous management.
The hotel had laundry facilties which was great when you have a family.
Breakfast in the morning was great. We ate out on the porch under the canape, which was lovely. There was a lot of choice for breakfast, the only complaint was the breakfast attnedant, who looked miserable the entire time, and couldn't even greet us with a hello in the morning.
However, apart from that, we would definately recommend this hotel when visiting Fort Lauderdale.
It was a great place to stay. The rooms were very clean and done everyday. The pool was adorable, nice size and the tikki bar has great drinks. Reasonable prices for drinks. You can bring your own drinks as long as you don't bring glass to the pool area. You can even bring food from outside. Great restaurant right next door and several others near by. Nice place for kids too. Would recommend and I would definitely stay there again and plan to.
C'mon, it's just a motel after all!
For a place to sleep, it's not bad. In the middle of it all and for an average of like $65/night with taxes, it's not too bad. The staff is friendly and quick to fix any problems with the rooms. Plus you get a fridge and microwave too in the rooms along with coffee maker. Walking distance to many shops and restaurants as well. And downstairs has a nice pool and "Tiki Bar" (although that stupid device they use to measure the shots of alcohol has just gotta go, hehe). So ya, it's not too shabby.
I recently stayed one night at this hotel and one was enough. We thought because it has the Best Western name it would be up to their quality. It wasn't even close. We had made our reservations a month in advance for a non-smoking room but when we arrived they said all they had was smoking. After telling them there was no way we could stay in a smoking room due to allergies, they "found" a non-smoking room for us. The place is very run down and in a bad neighborhood. The rooms all face the pool area which has a outdoor bar. The music plays there very loudly and with no seal around the door, you can hear everything that goes on there. Our toilet tank had a leak so all night it kept running every few minutes to refill itself. There are tiny ants that were found running on the bathroom counter as well as on the night stand and I didn't feel safe taking my shoes off with a very dingy looking carpet. We travel often and stay in at least 6 to 9 hotels a year and in our 10 years of traveling, this place was the worst. I would not reccommend to anyone.
I just recently stayed at this hotel and would like to say please don't go there. I prepaid for the hotel online a month in advance. When I arrived to check in, the hotel said they needed to put a 100 dollar hold on my credit card for incidentals. When I check out they told me that there would be no charge and the hold would be lifted. Later I found out that the hotel had charged my credit card twice for a total of 300 dollars and I am still waiting for those funds to appear back on my card.
I spent two weeks at the Best Western and it was an almost entirely positive experience. The rooms were clean and presentable and the maid service was above par. There was always ample parking the desk staff were pleasant. The breakfast was a bit spartan but I still worth trekking to the breakfast room for.
Best deal in Ft. Lauderdale
Just got home from Ft. Lauderdale and wanted to write a review on this hotel. The Best Wertern Oakland Park. Found this gem on Hotel .com.It is an old hotel recently renovated with all the modern amenities one could want. Has a great isolated heated pool with a bar next to it. Plenty of free parking all around. The rooms were spotless and maid service was excellent. The front desk staff could not be more helpful. I had a problem with the phone and there were three staff members in my room in minutes to fix the problem. They have a free continental breakfest that could use some improvement but its free and the people serving you go out of their way to make you happy. The staff is what makes this place so good. Do yourself a favor and save yourself a bundle of money and stay at this place. It truley is a gem.I hope yous entd this refview to the hotel itself they deserve a good job well done.Am booking with them again in February.R. Colonna Chicago
PLEASE STAY AWAY
Just do not go here. I want this to get printed so I will leave out the details but this place is a horror show. I tell you all as a friend not to go here. Bobby Townsend Warwick, Rhode Island

Our first day at sea began with a special breakfast. After getting up and dressed, we headed to the dining room on the cruise ship. They served us breakfast along with Shrek ears. During breakfast, we were greeted by three characters from the Shrek movies. First up was Fiona, then Puss in Boots, followed by Shrek himself! They came around to each table to greet the kids and have photos taken. They also gave the kids stickers to take home. The kids had a blast meeting ...
... in the area. After Lake Okeechobee the crops changed to sugar cane and cattle. There were a couple of huge fires near the road, presumably burning off cane fields (although we never did find out for sure). Then we were driving alongside the Everglades until we got into the hustle and bustle of Fort Lauderdale and found our hotel. We went out to a place called Cafe el Tamarindo for dinner. The food was delicious, the wine ...
... by Chuck Smith about the sovereignty of God. I really recommend it (http://ft-lauderdale.ucg.org/sermon/do -you-embrace-sovereignty-god). There is something everyone should know about the United Church of God congregation in Ft. Lauderdale, FL: they are extraordinarily warm and welcoming and have delicious snacks (I guess that's technically two things)!
We had made plans in advance to have ...
... all went together. Vietnamese rolls with Peanut sauce followed by grilled salmon and salad for me and mango cheesecake - all very yummy. Doug had the Vietnames rolls and a cold Pina Colada soup followed prime ribs … he had no room for dessert.
By the time dinner was finished it was about 9.30 … another quick wander around the shops and then back to the cabin for an early night … but I read instead and it ended up being a late night ...
Boarding starts at 11:00am and runs to 3:00pm; we arrived just before noon and parked across the road from the terminal - we could easily see our car parked on the roof of the garage from our ship.
The check-in process went fairly quick: each ...
