Historical Traveler Reviews BEST WESTERN Oakland Park Inn Fort Lauderdale

    Not considerate

    from

Please note: We DID NOT stay at the inn, so this is just a caution. I reserved on line, and clearly my fault, I didn't change the month box, so instead of a Feb. 12 reservation, it showed Jan. 12. And I didn't discover it until Jan. 16. I phoned right away and explained, but to no avail. I would certainly take the room for Feb 12, but the manager said they were sold out. The 800 number showed that not to be true, and a lovely woman from customer service tried to swap dates for me. But the manager would not consider it, even though she had space open, and I'd offered alternate dates too. I'd think guests would deserve a little more consideration. We all make mistakes, and it would have been good PR to meet me half way.

    Didn't love it

    from

We stayed one night at this hotel (motel?). We were downstairs next to the tiki bar which wasn't the best experience because you can hear EVERYTHING going on in the bar. Luckily for us Hurricane Rita was blowing by so most people decided to leave the bar area. The room was renovated with weird modular furniture, the floors were SOAKED with humidity, my shoes were entirely damp the next morning and truely we felt like we slept in a basement. The AC is LOUD, the customer service was unfriendly.

Lastly the area of the city was undesirable and left us originally thinking, why did we come here (although we were evacuated from Key West so not much of a choice). All in all, we stayed there because we had to find something quick. But in no way does this hotel live up to other Best Western's. They seem to be very inconsistant so we probably will not be staying in them any more.

    Very nice hotel

    from

We endd up staying here by chance, after driving up from Key West a day early, so we knew nothing about the standard of this hotel. However, we were extremely pleased with what we got, especially after staying in the Fairfield Inn up the road the next night which was awful.

The location was very good, just off the federal highway, very close to the first stop of the water taxi (route A) and very close to shopping and food.

The staff at reception couldn;t have been nicer or more helpful. We had a complimentary drink at the bar on arrival. The hotel was lovely and quiet, and the pool area was great. The room was very nice, quite small. The hotel is now under new management so I can only assume other bad reviews were from staying under previous management.

The hotel had laundry facilties which was great when you have a family.

Breakfast in the morning was great. We ate out on the porch under the canape, which was lovely. There was a lot of choice for breakfast, the only complaint was the breakfast attnedant, who looked miserable the entire time, and couldn't even greet us with a hello in the morning.

However, apart from that, we would definately recommend this hotel when visiting Fort Lauderdale.

    Great Place

    from

It was a great place to stay. The rooms were very clean and done everyday. The pool was adorable, nice size and the tikki bar has great drinks. Reasonable prices for drinks. You can bring your own drinks as long as you don't bring glass to the pool area. You can even bring food from outside. Great restaurant right next door and several others near by. Nice place for kids too. Would recommend and I would definitely stay there again and plan to.

    New Yorker

    C'mon, it's just a motel after all!

    from

For a place to sleep, it's not bad. In the middle of it all and for an average of like $65/night with taxes, it's not too bad. The staff is friendly and quick to fix any problems with the rooms. Plus you get a fridge and microwave too in the rooms along with coffee maker. Walking distance to many shops and restaurants as well. And downstairs has a nice pool and "Tiki Bar" (although that stupid device they use to measure the shots of alcohol has just gotta go, hehe). So ya, it's not too shabby.

    Bad Hotel

    from

I recently stayed one night at this hotel and one was enough. We thought because it has the Best Western name it would be up to their quality. It wasn't even close. We had made our reservations a month in advance for a non-smoking room but when we arrived they said all they had was smoking. After telling them there was no way we could stay in a smoking room due to allergies, they "found" a non-smoking room for us. The place is very run down and in a bad neighborhood. The rooms all face the pool area which has a outdoor bar. The music plays there very loudly and with no seal around the door, you can hear everything that goes on there. Our toilet tank had a leak so all night it kept running every few minutes to refill itself. There are tiny ants that were found running on the bathroom counter as well as on the night stand and I didn't feel safe taking my shoes off with a very dingy looking carpet. We travel often and stay in at least 6 to 9 hotels a year and in our 10 years of traveling, this place was the worst. I would not reccommend to anyone.

    Stay Away!

    from

I just recently stayed at this hotel and would like to say please don't go there. I prepaid for the hotel online a month in advance. When I arrived to check in, the hotel said they needed to put a 100 dollar hold on my credit card for incidentals. When I check out they told me that there would be no charge and the hold would be lifted. Later I found out that the hotel had charged my credit card twice for a total of 300 dollars and I am still waiting for those funds to appear back on my card.

    Will return

    from

I spent two weeks at the Best Western and it was an almost entirely positive experience. The rooms were clean and presentable and the maid service was above par. There was always ample parking the desk staff were pleasant. The breakfast was a bit spartan but I still worth trekking to the breakfast room for.

    Best deal in Ft. Lauderdale

    from

Just got home from Ft. Lauderdale and wanted to write a review on this hotel. The Best Wertern Oakland Park. Found this gem on Hotel .com.It is an old hotel recently renovated with all the modern amenities one could want. Has a great isolated heated pool with a bar next to it. Plenty of free parking all around. The rooms were spotless and maid service was excellent. The front desk staff could not be more helpful. I had a problem with the phone and there were three staff members in my room in minutes to fix the problem. They have a free continental breakfest that could use some improvement but its free and the people serving you go out of their way to make you happy. The staff is what makes this place so good. Do yourself a favor and save yourself a bundle of money and stay at this place. It truley is a gem.I hope yous entd this refview to the hotel itself they deserve a good job well done.Am booking with them again in February.R. Colonna Chicago

    PLEASE STAY AWAY

    from

Just do not go here. I want this to get printed so I will leave out the details but this place is a horror show. I tell you all as a friend not to go here. Bobby Townsend Warwick, Rhode Island

    A day in Fort Lauderdale

A travel blog entry by alimaterna on Jun 14, 2014

... finish my teriyaki chicken. It was then shopping time, and we drifted in and out of shops, buying a couple of things along the way. It was the England match vs Italy at 6pm and we were hoping that we would find somewhere to watch it in or around the mall, but there was typically nowhere! So we ended up being on a bus back to the airport for the duration of the match, and then hung around until our flight to Panama at ...

... as it had been placed in an area where the forlifts were still working bringing in luggage. When I saw that they had stopped, I grabbed a porter and off we went. I gave him a tip for helping me and said we’d take it the rest of the way – later I saw him with a trolley loaded up with half a dozen cases and bags. We finally made it out of customs at 8.50am to see Jean and then walked to where Dean was picking us up.

Our starter was an enormous salad of roasted beets, goat cheese, oak lettuce ( like spring mix), candied pecans, green apple and red onion slivers with a sherry vinaigrette. We thoroughly enjoyed a Pinot Noir by Davis Bynum from Russian River in Sonoma. WOW. A very significant red that was marvellous with both tuna and filet mignon. The seared hunk of tuna (one ...

    The Last Day at Sea

I awake feeling refreshed and ready for another day at sea. Peter fetches the customary early morning coffee. I have no idea where he gets it from...it just appears, and I am grateful.

We have breakfast at Johnny Rockets again as we enjoyed it yesterday. We then gather our things and head to the pool deck. After what looks like some early morning showers the sky is clear and the sun is beating down as people arrive up top to claim their sunbeds. We get 2 near ...

Today we caught the tender boat over to cococay an uninhibited island in the Bahamas, it was so beautiful with white sand and bright blue water, firstly we went for a swim where it was quite shallow in the bay, there was many people on the island because our boat the majesty of the seas and its sister ship the monarch of the seas had both stopped at cococay for the day. After swimming in the bay (which was a ...
