In Paris!

Nina and I arrived in Paris early this morning! Our flight was pretty easy and routine and we made it to our hotel just a couple of blocks from Notre Dame. The taxis driver only backed up three different times after a wrong turn (once on a freeway entrance) but we somehow made it in one piece. Despite the exhaustion we were able to make it to Notre …

... My phone was mucking up and I couldn't ring my contact - Darren to get advice, I was on my own so I just kept going and soon saw a sign with my numbers on it -A13. I had taken the longer detour - which cost me 8 euro in tolls but at least I ended up joining the road I have left earlier and finally headed out of Paris looking for the Aubergenville exit. When I did exit the auto road I was met by a series of roundabout, which in the dark with wet shiny roads had ...

... and the tower show its beauty. It was great to see familiar faces and regale each other with travel stories. Before we knew it, it was 11:30pm so time to catch the metro home.

Our last day in Paris we spent in the Musee d’Orsay, being a public holiday not much was open but the museum was so we went to see the works of Van Gogh, Monet, Manet, Renoir etc. I must say the work of Dali strikes a better chord with me I find some of ...

Flight from New York to Paris

... And to top it all off, the little girl in the seat behind Holly was just tall enough to reach Holly's seat with her feet. She invented a new game of kicking the seat. It went on for hours, and when I asked her to stop, she invented a new game of drums on the table. Noisy and annoying. The mother was busy keeping herself away from her daughter and letting her do what she wanted. ...

... we feel about it! Paris is a metropolis; you can’t see everything in ten days, so you’d better relax and enjoy your stay. And then on your way back home make a wish to come back and have a little more of Paris. I knew that if I wanted to indulge in the charms of this city the way I wanted to, I had to skip the main museums. I only visited Georges Pompidou or Beaubourg to see the museum of modern art. What a ...

Historical Traveler Reviews BEST WESTERN La Tour Notre Dame Saint Germain des Pres Paris

    Perfect location!

    from anonymous

We booked the room before we read the reviews here and we were quite nervous about our choice. However, it was a done deal, so we thought if it was horrible, we'd eat the money and book somewhere else when we got there. My husband and I had a great time here (March 2004)! The staff was very friendly, the rooms were clean (yes small - but no smaller than other hotels we stayed in), the location was perfect and price was just right. No complaints here!

    Small, charming hotel, great location

    from anonymous

My daughter and I stayed at La Tour Notre Dame in March 2004. Charming hotel in a great location. It is not a large, upscale-type hotel, but a nice little place to call home. Rooms are not the sterile, spacious rooms in the US, but that's why you're in Europe, right!? The bathroom was a little tight, but clean and modern. The staff was very helpful.

    Decent At Best

    from anonymous

Overall, the hotel was quite disappointing. I read the reviews here, but decided to go with it anyway since we weren't going to spend but 7 or 8 hours of sleeping in the hotel. The room was extremely small, but my wife and I thought the decor was interesting and nice. I guess it was Parisian. The bed was tiny and not so comfortable. The bathroom was very disappointing. There was a tile missing on the side of the bathtub and it was kind of gross to look inside of there, which you almost had to do since you looked right at it on walking into the hotel. The toilet smelled absolutely awful. when opening the lid, it smelled a horrible urine smell and it was just water inside the bowl. Quite disgusting. Shower was fine. Service there was fine, but we really didn't do anything with the people there other than check in, so we weren't such a barometer. The hallways were extremely narrow and the elevator could fit only 2 people and a couple of bags - and that was cramped. Location was great - right off the cluny sorbonne line.

Location doesn't get much better. So, overall, not bad but not good and more on the bad side.

    Avoid at all costs...

    from anonymous

When we arrived at this place I could tell right away that it was not as advertised. They advertised a 3 star rating, but that was a 2000 rating. I suspect that theyv'e not been rated in a few years due to the poor shape it's gotten into. My wife wanted to cry when we got to the room. It was awful. Like some cheap hotel you'd rent by the hour. We left our luggage and immediatley went and sought out other hotels and asked to see the rooms. Three or four hotels later we had a nice place.

I took it in the wallet a bit by cancelling, but to me it was worth it, that room would have ruined our trip.

    Right Price, wrong choice

    from anonymous

The price and location are great, the food is OK, but there is not a lot of choice, and the rooms are TINY! I have stayed in some small rooms, but these were ridiculous, even for a city centre. They are prettily decorated, but having installed en-suite bathrooms, the toile de jouie just gets damp and smells awful. The mock-stone paper on the hall walls (again tiny, very difficult to move with a suitcase) is pretty naff, anf the reception is straight out of MFI.

Good price, great location, small rooms

    from AlisonBuffalo

We stayed at the La TourNotre Dame Hotel in December,2004. It was a nice hotel for the price. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel room was extremely small. The bathroom had a great shower and a hairdryer. The breakfast room was a charming and the food good. The Left Bank location was great. The hotel is on a quiet, safe street within five minutes walking distance to the Sorbonne, Notre Dame, and Metro. I would probably stay there again just because of the price and location.

    Not the best option!

    from anonymous

After spending hours looking on the web for a wonderful charming well-located hotel in Paris, unfortunately I picked La Tour Notre Dame.

I was so disappointed to encounter the reality... a TOTALLY tacky reception/lobby with small cramped rooms on an ordinary small street.

As we walked through the streets of the St. Germain, we found so many other special places to choose from... Hotel Le Buci, Villa St.

Germain, Les Deux Continents, Hotel St. Paul, just for example. Please avoid my BIG mistake and make the right choice regardless of the few extra euros you'll spend. Believe me, it's worth it. (The hotel is only worth it if you are on a really tight budget - under 99 euros - and need a very center location - as you can walk easily to the Notre Dame, Metro, St. Germain and Luxembourg Garden).

    Charming, great neighborhood

    from anonymous

We stayed on the fifth floor, in a tiny but charming room. We had no trouble with noise from adjoining rooms. The concierge was a lot of help. The bathroom was very nice and modern. The beds were comfortable.

The dining room is cute and the food is good. Good restaurants all around. We would definitely go back.

    Don't stay here

    from anonymous

Stayed here in early January. The tiny room at the top of the hotel was extremely damp - may have been due to the carpets being cleaned recently and not allowed to dry out. The bathroom was poky - had to sit sideways on the loo - and the tiles had seen better days - they had tried to cover up the mouldy grouting with toothpaste. However, the real problem was the paper-thin walls - you could hear absolutely everything from the rooms either side of you, and sleep was only possible once we had purchased some ear plugs. The only good thing about this hotel is its location, but it is so bad that you don't want to spend any more time in it than you absolutely have to.

    Small, But Cute

    from Bambi_Boulangerie

Just returned from a brief stay at La Tour Notre Dame. We had two different rooms. Both the rooms in general and the bathrooms were small, but cute (toile everywhere, and one of the rooms had exposed beams). The hotel is in an excellent location; close to Musee du Cluny, Notre Dame, Le Quartier Latin, St. Germain des Pres, Boulevard St. Michel, several Metro stops, many restaurants and cafes, etc. The friendly, helpful staff was an added plus. I will definitely return for a longer stay.
