Well, the Dog Show has ended with all the winners very happy. I have to confess that I had never seen the breed of dog that won before in my life! He was a seriously cute little black thing called a Affenpinscher. The other three breeds I knew: Maltese, Wire haired terrier and American Cocker Spaniel. The people sitting behind us were with the fourth prize winner, the Cocker Spaniel, so they were very excited. But I will say, the ten best of group winners were ...

Let me state the obvious- there were so many dogs, and all of them were Finnish Lapphunds! You just didn't know where to look! In fact, all we saw were the boys! We just did not have a chance to see the girls! I would have liked to see Maatuska's potential class to see what she what she may have been against. I learnt a lot! Coat texture of the dogs is much more uniform, with a lot less with the softer coats that ...

Alex was bored very quickly, so after we had found the outside ring, which was a task because they are not well signposted, Alex and I left Sarina to it and went back to the apartment. After we fiddled around a bit more with the washing, we went ...

The plan was to keep today fairly low key. We met Lin and then went to the ferry- via a very long tram ride as we managed to get the wrong tram! Helsinki is great because you can get a pass and can travel on bus, tram or ferry for however many days you need. Except that Alex's 7 day pass went through the wash and didn't survive! Soumenlinna is not a palace but a fortress. Much of it is camouflaged underground and is built from granite stones. I loved ...

I can't imagine, when daylight is reduced to about 3 – 4 hours a day, snow is banked up all over the place and the temperature is around minus 20 degrees regularly, that you would prefer Winter to Summer? But part of the not so fond feeling for Summer is the rain. It was raining as she spoke to us about her love of Winter. Afternoon Summer rain just pelts down, making it almost impossible to drive and enjoy any sightseeing.
