We had a chilled weekend and this evening we went for a walk down on the local beach and took some more photos back up to the village in which we are staying. Years ago it was a major venue for mass bridge tournaments so it is called the "Villagio Dei Bridge" - but now it has a few full time residents, but most of the apartments are either holiday homes or no longer used. ... As you can see from the map we are on the edge of a national park, so the scenery around us is fantastic, and not what we expected. We headed North, on what can only be described as a "James Bond" type road - lots of wiggles, tunnels, and the obligatory Italian driver overtaking at every opportunity. we travelled to San Giovanni and on arrival had some difficulty finding the hotel but after about 20 minutes and help from a local "Mama" we did, We had to bang in the door and the home tel and restaurant looked pretty closed. We were shown to our room which was fine and had a large balcony with partial sea view. The man who checked us in did not speak or understand a word of English and, ...
... over the train journey but it transpired that rather like the UK there were engineering works on the line just outside Taranto. It meant getting off the stop before and climbing on board a bus. It was only a 10 minute ride and our connection wasn't for an hour so we had plenty of time.
