      What a Good Surprise!

      from

We stayed for only 2 nights, but it was such a pleasant time. Our large room was newly remodeled with two twin beds and duvets for cover...lovely. A real wardrobe and two luggage racks. Outstanding! The bathroom was huge and included a towel warmer, lots of thick towels and good lighting. Individual air conditioning controls for the room and darkening window drapes added to the comfort.

A traditional European breakfast was included, lots of breads, meats, cheese, juices, yogurt and good strong coffee. We ate dinner in the restaurant the first night and the meal was excellent as was the service. There is a tree shaded terrace for dinning too. The hotel was walking distance to the river and old town. The staff was very helpful with tours, maps and directions.

We stayed at this hotel on April 10 for one night. Found the hotel to be really nice. Our room accomodated 4 persons. The room was large, clean, and newly renovated. Bathroom was nice and large. We ate dinner at the restaurant and also breakfast both times found it to be good.

      Fabulous hotel

      from

Having just finished a 5 star tour of Eastern Europe, this hotel came as a welcome surprise. I had booked in for 2 nights from 12 October. It is about 10 mins stroll to the Hauptbahnhoff, and then about 10-15 mins walk to the old town. I had booked a single room and expected a tiny room with one bed. I got an enormous room with 2 beds with doonas, an easy chair, a proper luggage rack, large wardrobe and enormous bathroom. It's sister hotel (which is more expensive) shares the same reception area and the restaurant. The only negative I had was that I couldn't charge my meals to my room account. Breakfast was the typical European fare - cold meat, cheese, salads, breads, cereal. The receptionists were most helpful booking tours for me, providing me with a free map, giving me directions, and remembering me from the businessmen also staying there. Yes I would definitely stay here again.

      Hardest beds in Austria

      from

We stayed in a suite with four beds on the Stieglbrau side of the hotel. After looking at the reviews on TripAdvisor, I strongly suggest that you try to stay on the Imlauer hotel side. The beds in our room reminded me of the slabs that the monks up at the monastery slept on. They were beyond hard! Breakfast was a nice but this property apparently is a key stop for tour groups and you want to make sure you get to the buffet before the large groups.

The Imlauer hotel appeared to be more keyed to American expectations and had a computer for clients to use for email access. The hotel is just north of downtown but it is still a 15 minute walk to the old city past the Mirabell Gardens.

      Loved the Hotel StieglBrau

      from

Our group of six had a lovely two night visit enjoyed friendly, helpful and patient hotel staff. Breakfast was very nice, complete and well presented. Rooms were smallish by US standards yet clean, neat and well furnished. This might be an undiscovered gem!. Hotel is very convenient, even within easy walking distance to the train station, local laundromat and some shopping. You will enjoy your stay here!

Steiglbrau is a great hotel in a great city!

      from

The BW Steiglbrau and the BW Imlauer sit absolutely right next to each other - sort of sharing a reception area.

We had booked 2 nights at the Steiglbrau, but apparently were given a room in the Imlauer as we had to go up the elevator located on the Imlauer side to reach it. This did not bother us as the double room we received was on par with American standards and size. The room had 2 twin beds, which was alittle unexpected as we requested a double room, but the beds were comfy, so all was forgiven!

The bathroom was exceptional - towel warmer, tub with shower and great water pressure!

The breakfast, which was included in the price and served in the restaurant, was very good. Lots of bread (the pretzels are fantastic!), juice, meats and cheese, as well as fruit cocktail. The morning we checked out, we had to leave right at 6:30am, when breakfast was first available, so we asked if we could go in and get some things to go. We stock-piled breads and butter and jam for our 6 hour train ride to Venice.

We took 2 tours through Panarama Tours and the tour van/bus stopped right outside our hotel to pick us up. So, the hotel was super convenient for tours.

We were within walking distance of the train station (VERY easy to find), Mariplatz Gardens, and a bit further, but still within walking distance, the pedestrian area of Old Town across the bridge.

My husband fell in love with Salzburg and the Best Western definitely helped!

Wonderful, fantastic hotel, friendly and helpful staff, great location

We stayed here 2 nights. Wonderful, fantastic hotel, very friendly staff who went a mile to help us. The best location for sightseeing. I will certainly stay here again and infact recommend it to all. Dr Robson.

Great hotel and restaurant even better

      from

We stayed at the Stieglbrau in November 2003 for 3 nights. We had a triple room which was huge. The whole hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly. We ate the first night in the hotel restaurant as it seemed very popular with locals and boy it was great. Luckily the menu was translated into English and there were lots of very rustic Austrian dishes - our waiter even got us to try things we thought we wouldn't like. The staff were great towards our five year old son so much so that we also ate there on the second night. We tried a great pudding that night I don't recall its' name but it was a Salzburg speciality and was basically like a huge vanilla souffle without the sauce. I think for the price we paid this hotel was excellent value just a short stroll from the centre of town, past the Mirabelle gardens which were beautiful even in November.

... Europe would be, but there you go.

The bridge deposited us smack dab in the middle of Salzburg's Old Town, which is when we discovered that, simply put, Salzburg is stunning. I mean jaw-dropping, omfg, how-can-this-perfect-place-exist, gorgeous. And sure, there are hordes of tourists, but there are also many local Salzburgers too (I just nicknamed them that. Apologies, Salzburgers!)...dressed in the traditional brown and green garb with Alpine ...

I enjoyed this much more than a regular beer, which is, of course, what Jared had. I had read about the curry wurst, so I went for it. Bratwurst covered in onions with ketchup & curry powder - surprisingly good. Jared had a huge pork leg with sauerkraut and dumpling. It was just what we expected for typical German pub ...

There were planes, race cars, motorcycles and the astronaut suit belonging to Austrian Felix Baumgartener - the first man to set the world record for sky diving, an estimated 39km. We were then escorted upstairs to the ultra-modern restaurant. Jared went for the suggested menu of 10 courses but I wanted a slightly lighter menu & they accommodated me with ...

Waddling out of the Cafe Sacher, we took the bus back to our pension, jumped in the car and drove a few kilometers to a cable car which took us up 7,000 feet to a mountaintop hiking destination, the Untersberg, from which we could look far into the distance and survey the beautiful countryside below. Anyway, Cheryl and I easily found Schloss Hellburn and parked in the third parking lot (as directed by the book) walked through the gate into the large park open to the public and to our immediate right …. the gazebo. Cheryl took full advantage of the fact we were the only ones there to see the gazebo by reenacting the leaping scenes filmed in the gazebo. The only ...
