Down the Canal We Steam in a Steamless Vaporetto

A travel blog entry by hittite on Aug 22, 2015

One of the many travel advices I got about Venice was to skip the extremely touristy/tacky and expensive gondola ride, but to take one of the public transit vaporetto canal boats from down at the Railway Station all the way to Piazza San Marco, since that's supposed to be the best way to see the Grand Canal--sort of a Grand Tour of the Grand Canal for those given to puns. After a walk we had a yummy 3 course meal at a local cafe which included risotto, pasta with clams and tomato sauce, fish, prawns and calamari. Back at the hotel we had an early night before our drive to Rome ...

... end of the night and the trip home was lots of fun. We picked up a lady from another tour on the way back who was left behind from her tour, she was very grateful and she will certainly have a story to tell from her holiday. Our first night in Italy has been amazing and lots of fun and I'm looking forward to exploring Venice some more tomorrow. It's gonna be 38 degrees so I better get some rest as it's gonna be another big day. Ciao for ...

... it hard to remember 'grazie' instead of 'danke'. Trent and I kept practicing our more familiar terms to get out of the german language mindset. Close to 7pm we arrived outside Venice at the Busabout drop off point. With the campsite (I use the word campsite loosely, it is like a little town with cabins everywhere, a supermarket, restaurant, pools, spas etc) offering a shuttle bus to the main bus/train/waterbus/watertaxi station in Venice leaving at 8pm, we ...

... I think its the coolest momento! I also bought some Christmas ornaments from him. Other than the rain, Venice truly is a beautiful city. Its amazing to see a city run on canals and without cars! Defiintely my kind of place! Unfortunately after talking with some locals I found out that it was supposed to continue raining like that for a few days so i decided to take off in search of dryer groud. I will let you know where I ened up in my next ...
