... to release the Emancipation Proclamation, but there seems to be some question as to which side actually won -- Union forces were seriously beat up, but the Confederates left the field. One of Patty's distant relatives fought on these grounds (though not apparently in those preserved by the park). After driving the short loop through the battlefield, Patty quizzed park personnel for information about his unit while I walked the perimeter ...

Well we could hardly pass up the opportunity to check out the distillery on our way down to Huntsville, Alabama. This is the only place in the world that makes Jack Daniel and what I didn't realise, apart from quite a few things that we learned on the tour, was that there are a number of different whiskeys distilled under the label of Jack ...

We left Chattanooga on the Interstate 24 ( they are long tree lined corridors, you do not see the country side ) leaving the 24 we joined state road 50, a much nicer route. Whilst driving to Lynchburg we crossed the time line, so now we are 6 hours behind you all. Arriving at The Jack Daniel Distillery, our tour was about an hour and half. More dates and information. Now was it 1836 or 1856! We have run out room in our ...

... unload the antique bed, mattress and beddings from the truck so that we'd have somewhere to put our head for the night. I've heard about people who bring a pillow with them on holidays, it gets pretty serious when house guests bring their own bed.

As I say, we had a good night sleep and today all that's left is the tail. We need to unload the truck with plans for some of the stuff to go in the house ...
