... bar at 7.30pm...only in Rio!!

Then I went to a large supermarket. Gosh, what an experience that was!! Warning : do not visit a supermarket here at 7.30pm! Going back to 1950's, a chaotic mix of heat, people, dogs and madness formed their supermarket. The fact I was wearing a see through beachdress with my bikini and sand all over me went totally unnoticed in barely dressed Brazil!! I mean it is entirely acceptable and normal for men to turn ...

... available for tonight, so we did a little search and found a great deal at the Rio Nature Hostel, in the mountains of Botafogo. It’s a bit of a climb up there, but its truly worth it, as long as you bring your citronella with you....mosquitos:-( We parked the bike and set our stuff in lockers at the hostel, which has wild monkeys living in the trees, it’s like being in the jungle and in the city at the same time. The view of Rio and the Christ sculpture are amazing from up ...

A new journey from the 'River of January'

A travel blog entry by rio2012

Rio felt along way off 12 months ago, and at times, it was difficult to imagine ever getting there. But after 20 countries, 110 different beds, 30 plane journeys, and nearly 50 long distance bus journeys (the last one over 18 hours), Christ the Redeemer appeared high high above the City of God and Rio De Janiero.

I heard alot about Rio notorious gun muggings and Favelas, but wondered how Rio would compliment ...

... without dinner. Something I have NEVER done on a flight. We were starving, but they came round with a 'gourmet' wrap an hour before we landed. Credit to the flight attendant for saving us the chicken option as again by the time they goto us all they had left was sweet potato salsa (Andrew would have loved that), but it was like cardboard! Note to self: always buy snacks before boarding! We've had a glorious first ...
