Since we arrived in Trieste in July we have had barely two consecutive days without rain, often of biblical proportions. In pelting rain on a flooded campsite we review our travel plans this morning, abandon all thoughts of northern Germany and Holland and head south west into France. At first, I thought I'd probably spend the evening quietly in my room, but things didn't pan out that way. After setting up my bed, he took great delight in showing me the covered swimming pool he'd built for his clients, his well-stocked fishing lake, his vegetable garden and orchard, and - his pride and ...

... public museum in France, (established in 1694, nearly a century before the Louvre became a public museum) is closed until 2017 for renovations. It apparently has a great collection of paintings from the 14th to the 20th C. including my favourites, Matisse and Bonnard, as well as Renoir, Goya and Titan to name only a few. It also has a large collection of drawings and an archeological collection.
