Historical Traveler Reviews of Azzurro Club Cabarete - All Inclusive
For those of you with free vouchers

We also travelled to Cabarete Bay Hotel which I believe is also called Azzuro Club Cabarete on their ------------------ website. We were never notified of the massive construction taking place before departure. We were only told there were some problems with one of our pools. We were told we would receive two vouchers for one week each if we travelled anyway. We went and boy was it a shocker. The entire hotel was under masive construction. I took pictures of the disco that was being "roofed" the entire week we were there only 10 feet from our room. To make a long story short I began trying to book our free stay in June 2004 for January 2005. I have a stack of paperwork showing there is no availablility for any of the dates requested. After speaking with at least 10 different agents over the last 7 months I got a call last week from some lady named Nancy that was mailing our tickets. I told her that it was too late and that we had already booked another trip. I don't quite understand how someone could wait 7 months with no response and then one day get a call saying they are mailing us the tickets. To make a long story short I have since seen pictures of the hotel and it looks beautiful. The food was good all week. No one got sick. The beach is amazing and great for a long stroll. The staff on grounds were great. The staff at the check petend to not speak english on many occassions. I bet it is a wonderful resort to vacation at now that it is complete. One thing to add make sure to use your safe. The last evening we were there the boy cleaning my room stole my necklace. We reported it to the front desk and what do you know they don't speak english anymore! Any way good luck for all that stay at this resort. Just remember it can't possible get any worse than our stay was.

This is a 3 star hotel and is no more than that. The rooms were ok and clean, but when there is rain, the water in the hotel is filthy. At all times, one of the pools was closed. The food was ok and the facilities pretty basic. Excellent proximity to Cabarette and windsurfing. Large surf for those only interested in swimming. Too rough for kayaks.
Dominican is wicked and im going back FOREVER haha

Hey everyone whats going on! i must say that i do not agree with most of these reviews! i am 18 years of age (female) and this was my first vacation down south and i though it was amazing!!! i mean yea there are animals and bugs but what do u expect?? you are like 5000000 miles away from home and in a different country!! hahaah come on now.... there are bugs everywhere and yea there are flies that are gonna get in your food from time to time but that ant no thang!!! so yea i think this resort was awsome it is right on the beach and it is pretty small so you dont need to walk far to get everywhre you wanna go! this resort is also in the heart of Caberete which is very cool, if you are interested to take a walk down the streeet! there are many shops and stuff that are different and neat also. i bought a watch that is about 50 dollars here for 2 hahaha which i think is wicked. Anyways the beach is amazing and warm beautifuil water. there are many other resorts that are along this beach also so you meet many people. i meet 3 guys from ontario when i was there and became very good friends and we still kep in touch today. Also the staff is AMAZINGGG they are so friendly and i actually got attached to many of them. CLAUDIO I LOVE YOU hahha you are awsome. they are also very talented they help with the activites in the day and then put a show on for you at night... these workers cant even eat during the day and work for about 10 hours just for us not mentioning that they get paid not even half of what we get! so we cant complain about the staff at all they try their hardest to make out trip most enjoyable!!! also you need to go on the "Outback Safari" just to see what Dominican is all about the ytake you to a school in the outback "obviously" and show you the poor parts of Dominican! personally i never cry and when i saw these children living in rubish and going to school with nothing on thir feet and learning in a shack i started crying and could not controll myself! i know eveyone sees the commercials about poor countries and just turn them off i will admit i do the same thing but after seeing it first hand its hard to believe that this is realy goingon in our world! but anywaysi m not here to give you a lecture haha so i will keep talkoing about the resort!!!!! the activities are awsome and at 3 there is "orginized" activities hat take place. like last year there was a boogie board contest in the pool and the winner gets a court of rum!!! now EVERYONE wants DOMINICAN RUM so there were lets just say many "tipsy" people in the pool! hhaahha but overall i must say this is a party spot! and younger people would rather go here! there are beach bars on the beach ! ha whichc are open all night and are alot of fun so go at night after the pool and sun wears off! so take the time and give this place a chance and they are working on improving it! so just go and have a fun time and i dont want to hear anymore complaints about this place i love Dominican and it is awsome! and oh yea if you get a room go on the top floor because the bottom floors are a bit musty because it is so hot there! MWA i love you all and have a good one!

Good Resort, Great Location

Stayed at this resort from August 18-25 & had an absolute blast. The resort's pool was great & the pool bar was great. A short walk down the beach at night and you can enjoy the nightlife of Cabarete. We went to Bambu, Onno's, & a few others that I can't remember. The bartenders at the resort (especially Miguel) were great & a lot of fun. The resort could use a little more work, but the staff was great and made up for it.

We vacationed in the DR for the first time in late January 2004. We stayed at Cabarete Bay Hotel, although it seems to have several names.
We had a wonderful experience, we were told of the construction 1 week prior to us arriving and given an option of going somewhere else, but we went anyway, with the promise of a free week if we went. The airline Skyservice was really bad and there was never a Sunquest rep to be found and we are still fighting for our free week, although we have a fax now stating this is so. We travelled with our 3 children and had a wonderful time regardless of the flights and the construction. It's a wonderful place, the hotel is very laid back, friendly and the food is good. We are planning on returning next year to see all the construction, although reading all the reviews, I'am not sure who to book through. We really want to stay in the same hotel, whatever it's called but it seems the booking is a little confusing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Loved It!!

Well i just got back from Cabarete Bay ( Azzurro Beach Resort) April 8th and just loved it. My boyfriend and i both in our mid 20's wanted something fun but yet relaxing. We booked last minute so our choices weren't the best. We got a great last minute deal at 650 which was amazing. I have never booked last minute before and there weren't many reviews about this place so i really didn't know what to expect. When we got there we were more than pleased. We had to wait around for about 2 hrs before we could get into our room but not a big deal we just went and grabbed something to eat. **The Grounds** -- The grounds are simple but very nice. It's spread out very nicely so you never seem to be crowed with people, very clean also. Every morning as well as in the evening you see people cleaning non-stop. **The Room** -- The rooms are clean and nice. The beds i found were extremly comfortable. There's a fridge in the room which they stock daily with pop, beer and water.
**The Food** -- Put it this way my boyfriend and i never went hungry.
We liked the food very much. There's lots of variety and the food is good. Also, there's an Italian and a Grill Rest. a must go for sure.
They serve food as well as drinks 24hrs a day. **Staff** -- Everyone that i encountered at the hotel was polite and very helpful. They always have a smile on and go out of their way to help you. On the the 7th it was my boyfriends b-day. On the 6th after midnight i asked the bartender to speak with the chef about getting a cake for him. About 45mins later around 1am about 3 staff members including the chef came out with a cake singing happy birthday. I was very impressed and greatful. **Pools/Beach**-- There are 2 pools. One is more so the main pool ( biggest one, and a little busier) then there's a smaller and more relaxing pool with 2 hot tubs. Both are kept very clean, Oh and both have a waterfall which is a nice touch. The Ocean is amazing, huge waves. The beach runs for miles, it's beautiful. *** Overall we got more than our moneys worth. I normally stay at 4-5 star resorts so i was a little worried staying at a 3 1/2 star but we got way more than our moneys worth. I have no complaints and i would go back. The only thing is wish they had was more music during the day. The main bar played music but if you were on the beach or by the pool there wasn't any. Odd times during the day the activity staff would play some but only for a short period of time. A couple nights during our stay they had a live local band play and they were amazing. Also, check out "Bambu" it's about a 5 minute walk down the beach. There are other bars as well along that strip but Bambu i must say is the best. Went 3 nights in a row and the drinks are pretty cheap. You have access to their sister hotel in Sosua (Sosua Bay hotel) We never went we heard it was a waste of time and the hotel was a hole. It's safe to leave the property we did about 3 times during the day as well as at night. We did lots of shopping, really cheap. Shopping is nearby too, just walk out the front of the hotel and you have a long strip of tiny little shops. Well i hope this review helps some of you who are thinking about going. Any questions feel free to email me.

First of all before booking this Hotel, confirm with your travel agent to see if, "The Construction" is complete. We were lead to believe that the hotel was complete. However, we arrived to see about 40 Hatian men carrying wheelbarrels and various other materials throughtout the compound. The swim up bar, 2 a la'carte restaurants, Disco and 1 Pool are still under construction as of 02/24/04. This hotel was previously called the Estrella Del Mar. that makes up 5 of the 7 buildings. Buildings 1-5 are from the old hotel and building 6 and 7 are new. Thus, some of the accomidations listing the travel brochures are only in the new rooms, Fridge Coffee maker etc. STARZ/AZZURO Resorts owntis hotel and many other in the D.R they were over booking there other resorts and sending people from a 4-5 star hotel to a 3+ hotel in order to fill there rooms, HORRIBLE. I recommend you stay away from dealing with the following agencies. STARZ/AZZURO Resorts. SUNQUEST Vacations. SKYSERVICE Flights They were very uninformative and verbally stated we were to receive a rebate for out discomfort, aprrox. 40 people from CAN and US were mad, and when it came time to honor the rebate they denied us stating that rebates were stopped as of 02/14/04, why this date I have no clue, the hotel is still under constuction. So now we all have to fight for our rebates ourselves. e-mail if you want any more info.
Cabarete Bay, Estrella Del Mar and the Azzurro BEach resort are all the same hotel
from D>J>1952
First came the Estrella DEl Mar Hotel, then they built a nw building on the other side of the dinningroom and with a new pool called it Cabarete Bay Hotel. You use the same loby the same bars and the same beach. Now they have new landloards and they are calling it Azzurro Beach Resort. They are all owned by the same people that own Sosoua Bay Hotel (Starz Resorts). This is why you are able to travel back and forth between each place. Now what I think of the place. Well I will be staying for one month in March 2004 and this will be my 5th time and there is no other place that I would stay. It is small enough to be quaint but big enough to give you everything you need for a wonderful holiday. The staff is terrific and I always feel safe. The food has always been wonderful when I have been there. You are close to town and right on the beach. The night life is close and the music is terrific.
The beach goes for miles and you can walk even at night.
