      ... in the next village we drove to called Anavatou. This was up the top of a mountain more than a thousand meters high and very remote. Apparently there is only one permanent villager livng there now who is in her 70s and who refuses to move. She does have some company when summer visitors go to rent houses there although what they do there is a mystery other that to sell ice cream in the only little shop to the tourists who drive for hours to see them.       ... prepares wonderful salads (beetroot especially good!). We bid a fond farewell to the Sideratos Apartments on Tuesday evening and motor gently back to the port. The Chios officials use the same tactics on the Turks as the ones they employ on everyone else... and so we get swept up in all the tit-for-tat inflicted on anyone idiotic enough to cross from Cesme to Chios!       ... A millenium-old church and caves to boot! He brought us to their small museum, explaining that he needed some time anyway to go up to the caves and turn on the lights inside. Made sense.
