It's a sort of accidental spa town. There is a natural spring and baths/swimming pool but its very low key. But the weather was clear and sunny so the washing was done and drying by 11am. I must say that I was somewhat unimpressed by Lake Balaton, although the sight of our elderly, cynical program director stripping down to a speedo for a quick dip was something I won't soon forget. Balaton has a reputation as a huge destination for Hungarians but when we were there the weather was less than ideal and it was pretty much deserted. I think most of the people who voted for the lake regretted their decision.

We were given the choice of checking out some old Roman ruins or going to Lake Balaton. I was in the minority who wanted to see the ruins but we were overruled and wound up heading to the lake.
