“A tranquil haven in busy Queenstown”

As you enter the long, tree-lined drive it is surprising that such a peaceful, secluded spot could be tucked away in the middle of what is quite a busy area. From the moment of arrival we were made so welcome that we felt completely at home and the staff were always on hand to help in any way they could. Nothing was too much trouble for them and attention to detail was obvious in every aspect of our stay. Our private villa was spacious and comfortable with elegant furnishings and everything you could wish for already on hand or if it wasn't then we only had to ask! The lake and mountain view from our villa terrace was stunning! Breakfast was excellent, as was afternoon tea and the canapes which came later. We have no hesitation in recommending Azur to anyone who enjoys peace and beautiful surroundings and also likes to be spoiled a little!

Historical Traveler Reviews Azur Queenstown

Il massimo del lusso senza troppe pretese

from JT01

from JT01

Einfacher Luxus

from JT01

Unpretentious luxury

from JT01

Finally, a place that can offer beautiful rooms, in a fabulous location, with service that is excellent without being the slightest pretentious.

Nothing is too much trouble for Joanne & her staff, who all genuinely want you to enjoy your stay & treat the property as a home. Many ventures have similar aims, but very few are able to pull it off as well as Azur.

We were delighted by our room, which offered just the sort of contemporary comfort we wish we could afford at home! The space is generous, logically ordered, and beautifully executed to take full advantage of the unrivalled views.

Being able to open the picture windows so that we could stretch an arm out to bring in the cooling rain while luxuriating in a hot spa bath was a sensuous treat that will live long in the memory.

We'll certainly be back the next time we're in Queenstown.

Total Bliss

from WorldAtSea

My husband and I just returned from a three night stay at Azur. We had read previous reviews and didnt believe it could be as good as they said. I am thrilled to say that they were wrong. It was so much better. Every detail was impeccable. The staff made every effort, far beyond any hotel we have ever been to. My husband and I have dietary restrictions and the staff bent over backward trying to create canapes that were both on our diet and delicious. They put time and effort into making sure we had anything that our hearts desired.

Take them up on all of their suggestions, they really know there stuff. We chose Sam Summers hike, a horse trek, and the shotover jet boat. Dinner at Bathhouse was divine as well.

Everything about azur is first rate. The accomodations at the lodge are intimate and luxurious. The staff is knowledgable and friendly , and the owner is on site to help in every way, every day.

Hype on a web site actually matches reality.

from MSCPerthAustralia

Its not often when the hype on a web site actually matches reality. I stayed at the Azur for unfortunately only 4 nights and it was heaven from the picture perfect view the excellent service and the first class accommodation. I normally spend 150+ days a year in a hotel but this is now my favorite hotel. As soon as I arrived at the resort I was able to relax and no request was too difficult or trivial. The food was also top class from your own personal requests at breakfast cooked by Martin your chef or the home cooked cakes in the afternoon. The staff managed to get us reservations at several popular and excellent restaurants one which was our favorite which has only 5 tables which is not to be missed. ( The Bunker ) We were sad to leave but will definitely be back next year.

Sublime excellence.

A great property distinguishes itself with great service. For me this has always meant having all my needs attended to without any effort on my part. The staff at Azur apparently believes the same as one immediately feels comfort in their hands. As the other reviews attest the physical property, location and amenities are top tier. The ongoing concern of the concierge, owner and all of the staff is that your stay is a comfortable one whether this is adventuring or staying in. It is obvious that they are well connected with the Queenstown community as our arranged dinner reservations were at terrific tables at great restaurants. One small example of excellent attention - we had watched parts 1&2 of the Godfather trilogy from the Azur's DVD collection and found the 3rd missing; The staff member was unable to locate it for us that evening, so we just wrote it off - the next afternoon the DVD (rented from a local store) was sitting by our TV. There were many daily events which showed great concern on the staff's part that we were truly relaxing. Many properties have the right elements, at Azur there is a clear expertise in pulling all the elements together for a refined and comfortable stay where one leaves the better for it. Needless to say we look forward to our next visit.

Azur -- Awesome!

from loweball

Wow! This place is even more perfect than the photos on its website! I don't even think my review will do it justice. The property is set on a hillside about five minutes outside Queenstown with the most spectacular views imaginable. My wife and I spent seven nights at Azur, and wish we could have stayed longer. Everything about Azur is first class -- the huge villas, the furniture, the amazing bathroom beneath windows that open fully to reveal a world class view of the lake and mountains, and the service. Talk about service! This boutique property places more emphasis on service than any other place I have ever stayed, and I have travelled the world and stayed at some great hotels. Tim, the concierge, is warm, friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and elevates the word service to a new level. The chef, Martin, cooks amazing breakfasts (which you can have delivered to your room and set up for you on your table overlooking the lake and mountains or eat in bed). In fact, we would wake up and call to tell Martin what we felt like that day and would make it (crepes, pancakes, omelettes, bacon & eggs, etc) -- some days we left it up to Martin and were never disappointed. And the evening coctail hour (actually 2 hours) was always special -- Martin's canapes were outstanding, and the staff was very generous with the complimentary alcohol (they have a full bar, including New Zealand wines & sparking wines). Although they don't offer dinner, they have a "room service" memu from a nearby restaurant from which you can order -- they will pick up the food, bring it to your room and simply charge it to your account -- and the food from their "room service" restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced. Everything about Azur was so perfect that of the seven days we were there, we hardly left -- instead we relaxed and enjoyed the spectacular views, food and amenities (giant whirlpool tub, huge deck, fireplace, LCD television, DVD player, etc.) in our villa. If this place falls within your budget, I would say that it will be one of the highlights of your trip to New Zealand and could quite possibly be one of the most amazing places you will ever stay. I'm hoping to go back again soon.

We didn't want to leave.

from NACRAC

I agree completely with all details in the previous review. Everthing about this hotel is absolute perfection down to the smallest detail, including the toy sheep dog puppy sitting on your hearth upon arrival, waiting to be put outside your front door as a "do not disturb" sign. When we arrived at late afternoon, our car needed to be returned to the rental office, which by then had closed and since we were departing at 6:30AM the next morning for our Doubtful Sound tour, the staff offerred to return our car in the morning and also stopped to refill with gasoline. When my husband became ill every effort was made to make him comfortable and therefore he didn't mind staying in, plus the view was magnificient from his perch on the bed. The staff was warm and gracious, all creature comforts were tops and the oppossum fur pillows were particularly warm and cuddly in front of the fire on chilly nights. I was going to submit my photos but the ones already published by the hotel look just like mine...what you see is definitely what you will be getting if you book. I only wish Queenstown/Azur were closer.

A perfect get-a-way

from sebekdoxy

On a recent trip to Queenstown I decided to check-in to Azur based on a Travel & Leisure article that I had read. Immediately, my plans for the usual Queenstown thrill-seeking events went out the window. The views are spectacular. The design and materials of the villas are as good as it gets. To top it off, the service is like no other property that I have ever stayed at ( and I have stayed at them all, don't even get me started on name dropping). I won't even begin to list the standard services, you can check their webpage for that. However, they go way beyond what anyone would expect. My friend had left her wallet behind in her room. A call to the front desk and it was quickly delivered to us in town.

Tim, the concierge is tops in his field. However, everyone there is truly top drawer. I will be back even if I do, once again, spend most my time enjoying the views from the deck, bed and tub.

After leaving Milford Sound, we traveled back through Te Anau that same afternoon and drove east to Queenstown. When we arrived at our sumptuous lodge that evening, we knew immediately that the two nights and one day we had originally planned was going to be way too short. The Lodge named AZUR was elegant and the view from the villa was out of this …

After a long flight to New Zealand we had finally arrived! We transferred to the domestic Airport in Auckland for our flight down to Queenstown.
Flying into Queenstown is quite amazing, it is surrounded by beautiful scenery but can be a little scary coming in over those mountains!
Anyway, we picked up our rental car and drove (on the left …
