      After a horrid nights sleep, with 3 of us not well, we left Asti and drove towards the French border and the formidable Alps. We encountered quite a few tunnels that we had to drive through with some being over 5kms long. At least this saved us having to wind our way through the mountains. Once again there were snow capped mountains on either side of us.

      ... a diversion to Lyon and the two Nikon resellers there were both closed on Mondays!! We will try again in Reims tomorrow. Thanks to Suzanne at Nikon Australia Today's driving was even more hazardous than the previous day with more than 3 hours of the driving in the rain....and v heavy rain. Meant we had to sit on 100-110 kmph most of the day and not the normal 130-140kmph. We arrived in Noyers, the lovely ...

      ... to be a sweet spot surrounded on either side by dark and menacing skies. The ride up was unspectacular, reminiscent of the climb through Crawford Notch in New Hampshire, which on one side is just a long, straight, steady slog; this raises the question: is a Col without a switchback really just a notch?       ... have a little look around. One village called St Jullien Beauchine really caught our attention as it was in the middle of nowhere and on the main drag. We parked Charlie and crossed the road to have a little look. Just perfect to look at and walk around in.
