... suppose frostbite would be a hundred times worse.

We went back for the breakfast by 8am. There was the usual fish, rice with nori (seaweed), pickles, egg custard, miso soup and a few rather unrecognisable items. One looked like raw liver but it turned out to be sour plum.

We checked out and went for a walk around the lake. This time, I bought my gloves out. Now I can say, I have ...

Today I decided to have a little bit of a lie in, because of how quiet the hostel room was, instead of the norm of being woken up at 6.30 by people getting ready to leave for the day! Apparently it is the only place in the world where monkeys are known to do this, and is subsequently often seen ...

The travel plans today were going to be quite simple. At 10am, we were taking the Shinkansen from Nagano to Matsumoto, arriving at 10.49am. We were going to Matsumoto Castle, then back to Nagano and to Zenkoji temple.

We were supposed to catch the EJR hybrid train in the morning but that was not running for some unknown reason. This train was supposed to take us to the highest station in on the JR ...

... walk through the winter walk where workers have to walk for 20km for 6 hours. There was a monkey sitting on the top of the stairs so it became a choice of whether we wanted a photo of the monkey or that of a train going over the red bridge. In the end, the train on the bridge won out.

We came out at near the red bridge to see the first train go over the bridge. After that, we walked on a bush track and on to an ...
