Last night we had just made a new itinerary to include a visit to a National Park on the coast, but that was all thrown out the window as we received a text message from Kim's mum saying she wanted to come and join us. Kim was ecstatic!!! Another replan session as we did our much overdue laundry in Grosetto and our trip of Italy was to come to an end sooner that we thought as we had to get to Barcelona in 1 week. It worked out better this way as Kim's mum flies home on the 15th Dec ...
Grosseto, Tuscany, Italy darrenhough74All vitamin D'ed up we arrived at our destination for the evening - Bagni di Petriolo - hot springs. Soon we were lounging in the hot sulphur pools watching the sun set. A fresh water stream ran alongside the springs and a dip in the water was very refreshing, although a little breathtaking at the same time! The pools were popular with the locals young and old as well as travellers as there were about a dozen campers parked nearby. As lovely as ...
Bagni di Petriolo, Tuscany, Italy darrenhough74... the cobble stone streets were wearing dangerously high heels and showing lots of cleavage. The town was gearing up for a party. We stayed out as late as we could and headed home around 10:30pm and ready for bed. We were so smug, ready for bed and hunkered down for a good nights sleep when the band in the square outside of our window started playing. We really understood the effect of a sub-woofer. Our windows rattled until 2:30am. At ...

Punta Ala, Italy jpsaby... was sometimes German, sometimes Italian, which was a bit confusing, but all in all as wonderful an experience as Dave and I hoped it would be. It was 1 am before we got home - way past our bedtime - but I took advantage of the time difference to call the Pinkertons. I've been having grandbaby withdrawals, with two Saturdays having gone by and not talking to them. On my last cell phone, I used "The Magic ...
Chiusdino, Tuscany, Italy txnonna... a few clothes (no automatic washer and dryer here, thank goodness!). Like washing your car, hanging clothes out on the line must be a recipe for rain. They hadn't been out but 30 minutes or so, when the skies opened up and Dave, bless his heart, braved the deluge to bring the laundry back inside. Thus the 2nd bedroom got turned into a makeshift drying area, so we don't have to endure damp clothes draped all over the place. Wish we didn't have to go ...
Chiusdino, Tuscany, Italy txnonna... steep streets and found the church that commemorates Galgano's vision of St. Michael. Inside is a reliquary with a sword in rock motif and it contains Galgano's skull, which is visible if you wish to take a peek. For some reason, the folks back in those days would take parts from the bodies of those they venerated and store them elsewhere - the rest of Galgano is buried in his church ...
Chiusdino, Tuscany, Italy txnonna... tree. That is what we did, the small, piccolino trees. It was a pleasant feeling, to be helping the family and spending the day outside doing some work, getting dirty from the earth and the trees. The food was as it always is with Italian families... delicious and absolutely excessive. It is a pointless battle... a diet in Italy. Although I did learn how to say it in the hopes that it might help... dieta, dieta, piacere... sono piena! I am full! The oil ...
Campiglia Marritima, Italy maia... Vecchio. We didn't buy anything though. We also indulged in a little gilato (second cone in two days, I am a fat ass) and went shopping at the Market. They kept making fun of me because I wanted to take Dutli to the Leather Market so bad. It is the one highlight of living 20 minutes from school. Oh well. At about 3 I left the tour party and began a full day of homework in one hour. At the computer lab I watched the Packers fall to 0-3 on the internet play-by-play. This starts the week of great. I'm out.
