Forest thaw
... 3 miles uphill is no mean feat and all of us arrived at the mountain farm station in good spirits and not too clapped out. Uplifting
... for the Karwendel gondola ride up to Zwölferkopf from Pertisau. We had aimed to ride up and walk back down, but the grumpy old git at the cash desk would only grunt that there was too much snow and ice at the top, hence too dangerous to walk down. Walking in a winter wonderland
... manageable. The aim was to reach the Jochalm at 1483 metres, but as the altitude increased, so did the depth of the snow and conditions under foot were turning treacherous.
