Out and about in Buenos Aires

... to say whose tomb it was. Then we spotted the screw holes from where the name plate had been removed and realised they must have been evicted for non-payment of rent. So if any of you have a few quid to spare and would like a nice burial plot, see our photo’s!

While we were in the cemetary we met a guy from Delhi, India and chatted for a while. He is a partner in a law firm which retains the name of the British lawyer in Calcutta who set the firm up. A while ago ...

driver in impeccable Spanish and the group headed off towards the nearest restaurant for
some much needed refreshment.
"What can I get you?" asked the waiter in the restaurant just outside the walls of the
cemetary. "I'd like pescado please" said Nadine. "Pescado?" replied the waiter increduously
and switched ...

Days 25-26

... all South America was warm, always warm, certainly didn`t expect wet, cold and windy conditions, but that`s what it is today. Lucky i brought a hat, fleece and waterproof jacket, just didn`t expect to use them this early in the trip.

Anyway, had a nice bit of lunch: a roll in pig (cerdo); nice. A nice pint, cup of coffee and cake, another couple of pints, more wandering into the city and ready for dinner. Luckily i ...

... to get to the football game. Well, it turned out to be a bit of a farce. The bus turned up to take a group of us, plus other tourists, to the game at 4.30 and we thought we were getting fast food and a beer prior to arriving... well, we got into the ground at about 5.30 for the match to start at 7.45! And the guys that took us inside put us into standing terracing without the promised dinner... plus it was a little on the chilly side when the sun went ...

Buenos Aires

... pampas grass, so peaceful away from the noisy city but so close to it. We went to lots of cafes for tea and cake, notably the two frequented by Borges who Lucy tells me is a famous (dead) Argentinian writer. Turns out I´d unknowingly read one of his books at the start of this trip. It was rubbish, but the cafes were good. We went down to La Boca and El Caminito which is tourist tout hell but a pretty little area where the immigrants from Genoa settled and the site of the first ...

Buenos Aires Day 3 and 4

... making contact..perhaps the most entertaining of all. We saw a movie last night (Yes Man, or "Si Senor") at the theater in Recoleta. As it was a Sunday night, the theater wasn't too crowded for the 8:20 showing...but to our surprise, by the time we walked out of the show at 10:15, the place was packed, with people waiting in long lines to get in. This was a Sunday night! People definitely stay out later here. This morning we went ...

... here are our current touchstones: · I don't have to see and do everything on the list! Be flexible with the days. If find something you like, stay with it and don't move on until you feel ready. · Focus on what we're doing at the moment. Live NOW. · Be open - all senses and respond. · Body and soul are on this trip! · Be open to the unexpected, and don't sweat the small stuff. · Let the experiences and the images find me ...

... for the tourist office near the main square. I never found the tourist office but I did find an exotic shop selling some beautifully crafted jewellery, bags and clothes. The style was more Art Deco than Gaucho but I couldn´t resist and walked away with a set of earrings that would match my flamenco costmes perfectly. A late dose of jet lag sent me back to my room for a quiet night, spent flicking through 50 ...

... like the day was wasted. But then I realized that we have all the time in the world and we can do things at our own pace. I´m not used to this kind of traveling but I´m sure I´ll get used to it very soon. Actually, I´m already used to it! That was quick... We have met very nice people so far. We already met this guy on the flight named Arnon who went into New York with us for the day and then we found out that he is staying at the same hostel ...
