We have just arrived in the US - and made it to the Hotel its 11pm US time, so we have been up a few hours (26), we have our Hire Car - a Mazda 6, we have checked in and all is good in the world. Bit too tired to write much, but will report back after tomorrow, we are off to Griffith Park - so hopefully have a few good pictures to share. All the best Les & Caroline
We travelled from the grand canyon to the Colorado river. Colorado river was 115 degrees Fahrenheit and about 80 percent relative humidity. Sooo hot and muggy. Lucky there was the river to swim in! I did not get much sleep that night. From Colorado river we drove to Los Angeles and said goodbye to my fellow ...
... Plus everything imaginable inbetween! We sat on the beach for an hours or so but it was pretty windy so headed back ready for dinner.
One of the staff at our Venice beach hotel had mentioned something called First Friday so we headed down a street called Abbot Kinney which had lots of stores and restaurants all open late. There were also lots of food van parked down the ides of the street an it was very buy. We went to a restaurant called Hal's Bar and ...

The second floor showcased one of the biggest Marilyn Monroe collections in the world, this was an amazing part of the museum as there were actual pieces of furniture from her house on display as well as costumes, bank statements and receipts. This exhibit was a well deserved tribute to the great blonde bombshell of the 50s and 60s ...

We than continued our conversation like the question had never been asked. It wasn't the first time I have been offered drugs, but it definitely left an impression.

Historical Traveler Reviews Ayres Hotel at Hawthorne / Manhattan Beach / LAX
We stayed here the night before heading to Europe, It was a last minute booking and we were not disapointed.
The hotel was 10 minutes to LAX (from carpark to carpark) in an good neighborhood and real easy to get to from the 405.
Inside we were amazed with an open fire, cozy couches and super service. Our room was massive, and full of little touches that felt personal. The feel of the hotel is very European and is totally non smoking.....a big bonus. The beds were devine and towels in the bathroom wonderful. Having coffee making facilities and breakfast included really helped us out.
Breakfast was great, just a pity my appitite wasn't big enough to have it all and the service was professional, unintrusive and efficiently relaxed.
All in all i would have to say that this is the best hotel in the LAX area that we have stayed in. Its worth the money, your sanity and so so much more. A great way to start our holiday!
I reserved a room as a surprise for my boyfriend for his birthday, but I was surprised as well! This hotel is absolutely beautiful! As you enter the lobby, you encounter marble floors, a winding staircase and a fireplace. The rooms are even better. Marble floors and counter tops, luxurious rugs and furniture and a king size bed that is the most comfortable I have slept in at a hotel. It reminded me of the strip hotels in Las Vegas, only local. I will definately stay here again. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a different experience from the usual hotel stay. You will not be disappointed!
Hotel is Wonderful
This hotel is excellent. It is a beautiful property. The service my husband and I encountered was excellent. I can't say enough about this hotel. we stayed here for our 1st anniversary. It was about a 30 minute drive to LA, but it was well worth it. The property is spotless, very luxurious.
Yes, it is near the 405 and a busy street, however you can't hear either from the inside. The courtyard feels like your in the country. I would definetly stay here again. Also the reviewer who said you park under the property must have stayed somewhere else. The parking lot surrounds the hotel.
Don't pass this hotel up, you won't be disappointed.
Cannot say enough good things about this hotel
Everything in this hotel is brand new and spotless. Wonderful service, gorgeous rooms, courtyard, etc.
A sleeper! What a property
Stayed at the Ayers Hotel Hawthorne and was bowled over with the hotel, surrounding areas.
When I drove up to the lot, it did not jump out at me. However, as I entered the lobby, the art work, appointments, and staff were excellent!
Rooms are new, with tasteful touches, energy efficient (room key card is inserted into a separate unit that turns on the power), and importantly, quiet.
The attached restaurant is excellent and there are dozens of restaurants nearby. Beach is less than three miles away.
This property does not advertise too much, but it is worth a stay!
Greatest night of sleep
Our local church, Jubilee Fellowship in nearby Torrance held our annual Married Couples Retreat and we are already planning on Ayres for our next years retreat. What wonderful service, food, decor and staff. Great restaurant. Talk about comfortable beds! Really great sleep. The conference rooms were set up perfectly and the staff was wonderful in checking our needs in an unabtrusive manner. Can 6 stars be awarded???
What a beautiful surprise!
My friend and I stayed at the Ayres Hotel one night last month on our way to a flight out of LAX to Hawaii. This is an absolutely beautiful hotel! The rooms were great and the beds were a dream to sleep in--it was hard to get up for our flight. I loved the fact that a great breakfast was included.
My family and I stayed here Sept 1st, 2004 for 3 nights. Everything about this hotel is 5 star in my opinion. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. The staff at the front desk to the wait staff in the Matisse restaurant at breakfast was exceptional. The hot breakfast was very good. They also provided cereal, bagels, muffins and several different types of fruit. We have already made plans to go back in June 05'. I would rate it a 5 star for the price and amenities!
Amazing Hotel with great service and charm!
On a long drive home I decided to pull over and stay here out of the blue. From the outside this Hotel resembles an embassy Suites or a Ramada. It sits opposite a new shopping complex that is very ugly and the freeway. I wasn't hoping to find anything else but an afforable bed and shower. Once you walk into the Hotel and see the rooms you will be very suprised. I never thought I would say I had a pleasant evening in Hawthorne? This was a great Hotel with incredible service. I had friendly staff offering me help every ten feet I walked in the place. Sure you are in Hawthorne but the service and charm of this Hotel is incredible. I am amazed at how they can charge so little and offer such amenities. After I checked out of this place I hit a website to sign up for deals on the hotel website. I will recommend this place to all my friends who want a quiet affordable getaway. What a nice evening I had at this wonderful Hotel. This isn't crowded and over priced so hit this Hotel before it gets discovered. Great Hotel!
Book a room now!!!
My husband and 4 yr old son and I stayed here from 6/12 - 6/19 while he attended a local conference. This is a brand new, beautiful European style hotel with an EXCELLENT breakfast! The rooms are large and very nicely decorated - immaculately clean. The staff is extremely helpful and very friendly. There is a small pool and hot tub and parking is free. The beds are the most comfortable I've ever slept in - we didn't want to leave! Good rates because the hotel is new - it's a gem.
