The evening was my final day in Phuket so went to a very local restaurant and had a few beers with another spicy Thai dish!! We caught a taxi almost immediately to our hotel in Naiyang, which we had booked for one night as a 'stop over' en route to Bangkok, and subsequently Sydney and Aukland. We encountered many traffic jams between the harbour and our Hotel, not unlike those in Bangkok. It was not until we got into this traffic that ...
I'm going to be short and sweet on today's post as it's largely been one thing, and not too much to dive into. We left our hostel and walked to the local bus stop to catch a bus to Patong beach. Patong beach is beautiful and has almost white like sand. It was extremely busy with all the tourists, but I enjoyed a good swim in the sea and relaxed in the sun. Having a swim in the sea is one of the best things in the world. I feel totally at ...

The other 2 English guys took pity on me and had waited with me for my bag to hopefully arrive and seemed more concerned about it than I was. Historical Traveler Reviews Ayara Hilltops Resort and Spa Thalang
Great Getaway Hotel!
I have stayed at many of the top luxury resorts around the world and this one ranks with the best of them.
I originaly was staying at The Sheraton Laguna which we cordially checked out of within two hours of our arrival - as $500 was approx $450 over the fair price.
Having requested the taxi driver to take us to a small luxurious hotel he brought us to the Treerops. At first I was a little apprehensive as it is not covered in the international travel press and therefore I figured it would not be the same standard as The Aman or Trisara - however on arrival I was immediately convinced.
The hotel is sprawled over a hill top above a very beautiful beach - Surin. The rooms are dispersed widely around a steep hill and small bakees (golf buggy type vehicles)take you from the reception to the room. We checked into the Rachavadee Suite which has its own private infinity pool separate lounge pavilion and separate bedroom pavillion. The room provides you with the best outlook imaginable - a panoramic view of about 10 miles of beach.
The staff in the hotel were only too obliging to carry out any request. The spa was also lovely. Having visited the The Amanpuri, The Banyan Tree, and The Trisa which are all ranked as the top resorts in Thailand The Treetops doesnt have the same French Riviera "je n'ai sais quoi" type feel, and the pool isnt surrounded by Italian playboys wearing designer swimwear with supermodel girlfriends however who wants this in Thialand? The Treetops is an intimate getaway - you prob wont leave you room all day - and why would you need to when its this beautiful?!? A definate recommendation to anyone looking for a luxurious non pretentious relaxing getaway.
Best holiday ever!
My husband chose this venue for our 14 day honeymoon in January 2006. I don't think that it is possible for him to have chosen a more romantic, beautiful and peaceful venue anywhere in Phuket. The hotel staff and service is truly 5 star, the food absolutely great and the location superb.
It is a short comfortable walk to the beach and restaurants and the buz of Patong Beach is close enough to enjoy but far enough to ensure that Treetops is quiet and private.
Our room was fantastic with Jacuzzi, beautiful bathroom and great views of the sea and the gardens on the premises. The facilities in the room are impressive with extras, like a dvd player thrown in!
We can only thank everyone at Treetops for making our honeymoon the best holiday ever.
My girlfriend & I stayed at Tree Tops just a couple of days ago (Jan 06). It is indeed a beautiful place,.. we were supposed to stay for 2 nights, but extended a night so that we could enjoy it more.
The villas are perched on a hill, with great views overlooking Surin beach and Bangtao beach. One word of caution though, the compound is large and not all rooms are oriented the same way. There will be differences in terms of the views afforded & level of privacies in the villas.
The one we got is just perched above the reception block, and so had excellent view of Surin Beach & Bangtao beach further up.
In the Benjamart Villa itself, there is an outdoor jacuzzi, a nice large balcony with comfortable cushioned deck chairs, for reading or just to enjoy the view. The living spaces inside - you'll have to experience it yourself.
If you're like me & like to mix some indoor relaxing with swimming/ relaxing at the beach, Surin beach itself is about 10-15 mins walk away. The water is quite clear, sand is soft & deviod of rocks. Most importantly, the beach is much more quiet than Patong. Make arrangement with the lobby before hand to pick you up at the beach and send you straight up to your room.
If you prefer to swim in the resort, their swimming pool is nice & quiet. Very pleasent to spend an hour of two in the afternoon.
This is a great place to stay. I would definately recommend it to people looking for a relaxing, romantic get-away.
Great for Hill Walkers
Arrived at the Japanese style hotel. Main pool in the reception area with very little privacy.View of Surin Beach if you stand on your toes. The private pool rooms are a very large bath not a pool.
the suite is divided so the bedroom and the living rooms are totally seperate.
Moved out on arrival and headed back to the Banyan Tree.
Wonderful and Quiet
I have to agree with most other reviewers - Treetops is a quiet boutique resort located just a few minutes of walking distance from the Surin Beach.
If you are looking for a quiet and romantic getaway, Treetops is the place for you.
The hotel is pretty well managed - they change your bed and clean the rooms twice a day. The service is also spectacular - when we arrived, they told us that our room had not been ready (around 5pm in the afternoon) because a guest who was staying there requested a late check-out; the hotel manager and staff gave us a free complimentary meal at the nice hotel restaurant.
Additionally, the view of the hotel was awesome, especially sitting your personal jacuzzi overlooking the beach and the hill.
We stayed there from 31 October to 3 November and what can I say ... the best experience we had so far. Treetops was beautifully built on the hill, with 3 types of suites, Benjamart, Jamjuree, and Rachavadee. We were actually reserving for Benjamart, but they upgraded our room to Jamjuree. For USD 292 for 2 nights, the upgrade was really a very very generous gift to us. In addition to that, we initially stayed there for 2 nights, but we really fell in love with Treetops that we extend one more night and they let us stay in our Jamjuree suite with reasonably USD 200.
Rooms (Jamjuree suites): very spacious, living room is separated from bed room, each has TV and in living room you get the DVD player. Jacuzzi (cold only) in the front terrace and from there you have a view of Andaman sea. So amazing. Not only that, the suite also have big bath tub, indoor shower and outdoor shower surrounded by lush small garden. Attached to garden wall, there is a fountain comprised of 3 dragon-head statue. The fountain water came out from each dragon mouth and you can switch it on/off (to stop or have the fountain on) depending on your mood. Interiors are mostly minimalist/zen-style, with many glass doors (beware you may hit the door!!).
Amenities: very good quality, threads and pillow are very soft. Shampoo and soap are home made from herbal. The bath gel is amazing, with only a few drops it created tremendously huge mass of foam. Slippers, bath robe, towels are available and are in good quality. Bed mattress is a bit hard, but still OK with us. Fruits are served everyday. Water taps, shower, lights, and air-con are working perfectly. No hassle at all.
Staff: amazingly friendly, attentive, polite, and professional. Altough we wait for a while on check in, but that was due to updgrading our room. Our room was cleaned like 3 times a dayand everytime towels were replaced with new ones. They are also willing to help you with the recommendations on restaurants, tours and transportation. What a top notch service!!!
Dining: We had dinner out of hotel all the time, but breakfast there were good. Not really have abundant choices, but what they have there were in very good quality. No complain at all on the taste and freshness of the food. Waiters are really attentive.
Facilities: small pool but set very lovely. Small gym with yoga-class. Top class spa!! You must try it. At the time we stayed, the spa was almost fully booked, as they had a 50% discount off the rack rates. Guests from Chedi and Amanpuri also lined up to the spa. The spa room are beautifully decorated in zen-style, very relaxing atmosphere. Masseurs are mostly women, they are very friendly and attentive to you.
Location: quite far away from Patong, but for us, the location is perfect to have a romantic escapades. If you have taxi (Honda City or Toyota Vios) from hotel to Patong, you will be charged THB 500 (USD 12.5) one way (30 minutes). I know it's a rip-off, but having such a top class room and services there, nothing could ever ruin our excitement. Besides, for romantic couple like us, having a private taxi is more comfortable than if you get ride in songthaew (public mini van). Anyway, it's just a choice.
Privacy was really not a big issue. Yes, the glass wall and door and open terrace make it easier to be seen from outside, but I believe the staff have a high standard on appreciating guests' privacy, and also the other guests. Mostly are honeymooners so they also need privacy just like us.
Note: because the resort is set on the hill, it is not recommended for heart-weak person. Eventhough they provide a buggy to drive you up to the hills, but sometime you need to wait a while to get it pick you up. We enjoy walking, so going up to our suit (or going down to lobby) without buggy is not a big problem at all, we can enjoy the majestic view of the resort while walking.
I stayed there with my girlfriend just 1 week ago and we both loved the place.
The room was fantastic with our personal jacuzzi, an outdoor shower (which by-passers can see us), giant bed which was sooooo comfortable and nice romantic lightings among many others. And of course not forgetting the free DVD movies which were available free.
One of the staffs even helped us booked our transport back to the airport which was cheaper than if we were to book through the hotel.
And the best was they allowed us a late check-out at 3pm as we had a late flight home as well. Most other hotels would probably have given us 1hr or none, so that was very much appreciated.
Pad thai at their restaurant was the best i had in Thailand too!
Even though we were hoping for an early check-in due to our early flight, we were made to wait and the staff wasn't particularly friendly as we were expecting to be.
Raining all day long(not hotel's fault though)
Overall still a great experience!
It's now almost 2 months ago since I was there and I still miss it! This is certainly one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at, although I have stayed in many much more expensive places all over the world!
They only have suites which are all in bungalow style on top of Surin hill.
The suites are fantastic, with three rooms of about equal size: bedroom, living room and bathroom. Yes, the bathroom is about as huge as the bedroom and has windows on three sides which allows you to lie in the bathtub watching the lush tropical garden greenery. There is also a large terrace with sunloungers, chairs, table and private jacuzzi. Some of the more expensive suites even feature private swimmingpools. All rooms and terrace feature stunning seaviews!
The staff would do anything to make your stay comfortable without being obtrusive.
This place is a romantic getaway, beautifully decorated in Thai style and fresh flowers. A DVD player (you can borrow movies at the reception free of charge) and all the amenities you could wish for are provided. It is not suitable for small children or people with walking problems since there are too many steps to walk (we had about 160 steps from the reception to our suite). It is about 250 metres away from the beach and outside restaurants and they are happy to give you a ride - also free of charge.
I can only recommend this place and hope to be back soon!
We had the absolute pleasure of staying at the treetops arasia in May . We contacted the hotel directly and were offered an ubelievably good rate as they were trying to recover from the drop of tourism due to the Tsunami . The hotel is up on the hill at Surin beach and was totally unaffected .
From the moment of arrival we were impressed with the level of service and high quality of the establishment .
We chose a Jamjuree suite which had a large terrace with outdoor Jacuzzi,a separate living and bedroom and a small garden at the rear with fountain and outdoor shower. The suite was a real home from home which we didnt really want to leave . Our suite was positioned so that privacy wasnt a big problem but I could agree with the previous posting that lack of privacy could be a problem in some of the units ,especially as this would be a perfect honeymoon hotel.
Breakfasts were alll made to order and of a very high standard . We didnt eat any other meals at the hotel but can really recommend Silk restaurant which is about 500 Metres away in the Surin Plaza Building.
Other things to note as the resort is on a hill then it may not be recommended for seniors ,however the hotel will always take you as close as possible to your room by their transport and will pick you up to take you back down also. Our suite had a gap under the door which allowed the local inhabitants to enter (Millipedes, crickets,Lizards etc) the hotel does provide mosquito coils and we were not bitten once . One last point the suites have a large amount of glass doors which are unmarked you need to be careful not to walk into a closed door !
None of these things would detract from giving this hotel full marks or wanting to return
Lovely Treetops - A little more privacy please
Treetops Arasia - This is a lovely hotel at the top of the Surin hill. Great sea views! At night, the place looked spectacular from the Surin Beach.
When you check in, they give you a lovely welcome, treating you to Lemongrass scented towels, coconut drink and a scented corsage (which you can use to scent up your room).
The room is BEAUTIFUL. We had a Jamjuree suite which had a living room and a bedroom and a garden with a fountain with trickling water that is extremely soothing for your soul. The garden also has an outdoor showers (though it says hot water. our water was cold). In the front of your room, we also had a balcony overlooking the sea and trees. That's also where our sunbeds and cold jacuzzi is. Within the suite, the bath-tub overlooks the garden & some nice landscaped walls. I especially love the way they have structured their lights for the bedroom so that it does not have result in a strong glare but shines soft, romantic light hidden in the ceiling. It is a romantic suite, provided you don't have any nextdoor neighbour, or upstair neighbour. (It is like a house where we occupy the lower floor)
My biggest grouse with the suite is that there's no barrier before anyone sees into your room. To give you maximum vantage of the seaview, it uses alot of glass windows and doors. If a service staff (or a nosy resort occupant) were to walk to your balcony, they can immediate see all the way to the bath-tub or outdoor shower. They should at least have a small gate at the side of your suite to prevent such things from happening.
The hotel being situated on a hill is a challenge for those with walking problem. This can be overcome by asking the hotel pick-up to transfer you to the lobby or Surin beach or whereever you want. Food is not a problem as there's many beach restaurant & there's always the Surin Bay Inn Restaurant, on a road before the beach.
So overall, it really is a very romantic place to stay... but would I stay there again? Yes but only if they have other rooms that don't have a privacy problem...
