... me bereft and homeless. After she headed to the airport at 10 am I got on the internet and after a few email exchanges was sitting in a rental agency looking at immediately available apartments. After an hour I had two addresses to visit. The first in the upmarket neighbourhood of Recoleta. The apartment belonged to an elderly psychoanalyst specialising in long term relationships and rented out rooms to foreign students. There was not a room immediately available ...
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina hess... Buenos Aires itself is just like a big Eurpoean City - there's not much that sets it apart from any other capital or anything that stands out as being typically South American, but it is full of really interesting architecture and plenty to do. We wandered down the massive pedestrianised streets, went down to the harbour and managed to visit a really ship that was still docked and had been turned into a museum. We also took the tourist hop ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina willb... the game, without skipping a beat the party continued, in fact the only gasps of disbelief came from the 40 or so gringo´s around us. It was like nothing had happened, in fact the songs and chanting got louder as the crazy La Boca fans got into full swing. The rest of the game was a blur of jumping shouting and singing, with the odd photo and video clip of the fans (not the game) thrown in. For the record La Boca lost 2-1 but that was irrelevant, what a blast. Liverpool fans eat your heart out.
Buenos Aires, Argentina kiriandjames... other Tico friends. It was very hard saying goodbye to the people, but after six weeks in San Jose I was ready for a change but nevertheless I would love to return to Central America some day. I am now in Buenos Aires and have been here for almost a week, but most of it was spent in a hotel for GW orientation. I moved into my apartment with my new host mom on Wednesday night. So far, so good. The parts of the city I have seen, I love. It is gorgeous and there is ...

Buenos Aires, Argentina trishsteph... dish in sight, and it is not uncommon to proceed either directly from the restaurant to bed or to the bars well after midnight. Restaurants are also cheap. Not necessarily backpacking-around-the-world-I-just-got -here-from-Asia cheap, but cheap. An average first class steak is in the neighborhood of USD10-15. A damn good bottle of wine is USD4-8. If you are a wage earning professional in NYC or London, BA is paradise ...
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina chiapoe... here, I've found it personally quite funny in many situations where I recognise a street or a place and suddenly recollect that I have been there before - a sort of deja vu, but one where you can pinch yourself and it's reconcilable. A lot has changed in this city - equally a lot remains the same. One nuance I'd forgotten about was the capacity of the local populous to protest outside of the government gates and march in various central locations ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina bourlingueurTouchdown! we in BA baby - just in time for a Saturday night! We tried to get a bus to the hostel from the airport but trying to ask the grumpiest bus driver in the WORLD, how much we pay, where we get off etc, we jumped off and grabbed a cab with the grumpiest cab driver in the world (is every transport official in BA grumpy?). So, he pulls up on the dingy street saying here we are and we´re looking at it like... wha´?? But turns out we were there. the hostel was this tiny door that ...
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina ainekerrigan... to put it all together!
It was actually really good fun, I just wish that we didn't have to knock into everyone the whole time because we were so crammed in.
Despite banging into ...
