... It drizzled rain right through this 6km long gorge but the sky was clear when we exited the northern end! PM - Had lunch here in Skalni Mlyn, a scungy hot dog with mustard, not a good choice! A bit about these caves; the Punkva caves are an extension of the longest cave system in the Czech Republic whose corridors are over 30km long! ... Venice witch, Stab stitch, Did you have a choice & Rail radish! Pretty good pronunciation, eh? The last 10km or so into Brno was all on cycle paths and alongside the local creek, the Svratka (Rats car) so this was easy going right into the centre of town. Then we saw the last 500 metres to our hotel, vertical, well almost! This is a huge hotel of a century or two in age, have to get a photo from the south ...

After that it was pretty well plain sailing past some beautiful vineyards and little houses, more farmland of wheat, barley, canola, potatoes, pumpkins and lucerne. No fences and no animals, I wonder where their cattle and sheep are? Some limestone hills and outcrops appearing and then, voila, there was Mikulov with its castle on the hill. We have had a very relaxing day – I think the first one since our trip began. After a leisurely breakfast at the apartment we went for a short walk around the town and picked out some of the points of interest listed on the tour map. Left the hotel for a tour of Spilberk Castle. Our tour guide Ryderer was excellent, but walking up multiple steep hills to get to the castle almost did in many of us. That along with at least a hundred steps in the castle between the dungeon area up to the tower means no guilt in enjoying the Czech food. The dungeons were used centuries ago to harbor murderers (lowest level), thieves (mid level) and political prisoners (upper) - so you see, not much has changed. The Nazis ...
