Jun 2009- Day 7- SYD Opera House & Darling Harbour

Day 7: 13 June 2009 (Saturday)

Weather was good, cold but very good!

0845: We had our complimentary Breakfast in the motel, not many variety but just nice for us as we don't eat much in the morning.

0935: Left the motel and head to Homebush DFO.

1035 to 1055: On the way, we saw a sign pointing to "University of Western Sydney", Daddy had his degree from this University through part-time study, so we thought it would be nice to have a look at the University since we...

Last Day in NZ, Heading to Sydney

Our last day in New Zealand was sunny and warm-mid 20s. We headed for Queenstown and finally got a picture of sheep, although still not the best-they ran away again. We did a quick stop in the downtown area for some last minute shopping and sightseeing and then returned the car. We didn't figure out the mileage yet. Our flight with Emirates to Sydney was wonderful. The meal and service was great and I spent most of the time watching a movie. They have a selection of hundreds of movies, TV sho...

G'Day from Sydney

Today is our last day of vacation before the 24 hour flight home. Tim left early for a run in Hyde Park. After breakfast we headed for a walkabout through the Park, up to the Botanical Gardens and the Opera Houses. We had a nice lunch at a harbourside café and then went to the Sydney Aquarium and some sightseeing around the harbour area. The Aquarium was great. We saw all kinds of fish, crocodiles, sharks, Dugongs and the cutest Blue Penquins who looked like they were dancing and shaking thei...

Nice - not 5-star

from Mishybelle14
We had a nice stay and all the staff were friendly - just a couple of things that made me feel that it wasn't up to 5-star quality.

Our hotel room was supposed to be a delux king room - which we thought would be great until I realised that our "delux king size bed" was actually two singles pushed together!! Not exactly what we were hoping for.

Then we had room service arranged for the morning which I was really excited about because I'd never treated myself to room service before - and when the food arrived it was cold and there was not much of it.

There was no cd/dvd player for us to listen to music which I would have thought would be standard in 5-star accommodation.

And finally - we asked for late check out - which we were very happy to be granted - but then the Mini-bar made walked in at 11am(normal checkout time) while we were still in bed - I would have thought that they would have been informed of those with late checkout.

So all in all - a little disappointed - glad that we got a good deal from the web and didn't pay for the 5-star accommodation we were promised and, I feel, didn't receive.

A huge letdown

from AvidTraveller90
Extremely disappointing hotel masquerading as a 5 star. It is really lucky to even be considered as a 4 star.

The staff are pleasant however the hotel feels as if it has no soul. It is full of group tourists and in a very unsafe part of Sydney CBD.

My room looked nothing like the website and the carpet leading to the rooms looks as if it has never been cleaned. Whilst I admit the prices are okay, there are much better bargains to be found in Sydney.

The restaurant staff are lovely, however once again there is no warmth or character to this restaurant. I would not stay again.

Sydney's best kept secret hotel!

from dctrips
We stayed here for 5 days during our honeymoon back when it was the Avillion Hotel and we loved every minute of it. The hotel was immaculate, the rooms were well-appointed with the cleanest bedsheets and duvet ever! We had a room on a high floor with a private but sunlit view.

The hotel was the perfect as a base for exploring all Sydney has to offer and also a great place to come back to. The bathroom had a separate shower and soaking tub, so it was nice to come back to after a long walk by the Opera House, the Queen Victoria Building, etc.

The only drawback was paying for in-room wireless internet use, but that's a small price to pay for wonderful location/staff/room. Highly recommended!

Good hotel, good location, but not 5 star

from krazy1
Nice hotel but would not call it a five star hotel as advertised. Stayed in an executive room and had access to the executive lounge but its not all cracked out to be. Room size of executive is only a bit bigger than standard room which I have stayed in before. Reception staff one day were very poor and forgetful, next day reception staff were great. Location is tops with close access to Darling Harbour and City's main centre.

Stay was good, not the best in Sydney

from mrae
My boyfriend and I stayed at Rydges on Saturday 14th April. We have stayed in several hotels in the Sydney CBD and this hotel was in the middle of our list. The overall appearance of the hotel is clean, comtemporary and simple. We stayed in a standard room, king bed, bathroom with bath and shower, t.v., and mini bar.

The room was of an adequate size and the bed was clean with good bedding.

Checking in was very simple and easy. We had full buffet breakfast included in our price and on sunday morning it was a bit busy as the breakfast area is not very big. There is an adequate range of breakfast available.

The location of the hotel is close to 2 train stations and the hotel is situated very close to George street which is a busy part of the city. You can walk to Darling Harbour from the hotel, Circular Quay (the site of the Opera House and Harbour bridge) is a short train or bus ride away.

Good quality Sydney hotel

from Mund
Needed a hotel in Sydney tonight and after searching a bit on the web, found the Avillion ... sorry, Rydges WOrld Square hotel (the receptionist told me that they own it now) ... through the Rydges website.

The room is pretty well sized, very clean and for a city hotel is actually nice and quiet.

Got a pretty good rate on the website as well. So for a city property I can't really complain. It's close to Darling Harbour (where I just had dinner) too and the monorail goes right past it - a bit touristy but kind of fun if you haven't ridden it before.

Would recommend to others looking for a centrally located, well priced quality hotel. But book on the Rydges website, it's cheaper.
