My dear sister April invited us to join her at the Calistoga Ranch. Even with threatening rain we hit the road and drive to through the beautiful wine country. St. Helena was decked out in Christmas decorations and was filled with people with shopping. Then we turn up the road to the ranch and encounter nature in all its glory. A turkey vulture enjoying his ...
Calistoga , California, United States ruthperelsteinWe didn't need to do an 11 month road trip to the Panama Canal in order to visit Napa Valley. But it made the wine taste that much better. We had stopped in Sonoma on the way south in January, and had been taken with the charm of the Sonoma Plaza area, which was basking in hot sunshine at the time. But our Sonoma stop just couldn't compete with the breathtaking fall colours in the Napa Valley in November. The orange, red and yellow hues ...
Fairfax, California, United States bogna... plan for himself and in a pretty good position right now in many ways. Which leaves me, the man without a plan, who's just as happy to be sitting here on a natural high once again revelling in another great experience before the next one explodes around the corner. Where and when that will be is anyone's guess. From where I'm sitting I can just make out the electronic screen in the distance. My flight will ...
San Francisco, California, United States scottwozOur flight for London does not depart from San Francisco until 7:15pm, but by 1:30pm, we are anxious. We went to work today, but clearly our minds are somewhere else. Our bags are packed and ready to go, so we left work early and headed home where my dad will take us to the airport. Because of our eagerness, we decided to go to the airport a LOT early. By 3:30pm, we had checked in and are waiting for our flight in United's First Class Lounge. Exchanging miles to fly First Class was ...
San Francisco, California, United States darwinsf... it was then... once we could find the flipping station which took about 15 minutes and not a little wandering. These cunning 1.50 things also work on the underground - in fact on everything except the rip off cable cars - so down we went and a couple of stations later up we came again to find we had located the parade, some sort of Greek pride thing. We had also located a coffee shop and what looked like one of the less civic pride orientated areas of ...
San Francisco, California, United States vorlina... possible and in reply Francis said to just put the wine in a can. And voila, the soda can version of the Sofia wine was born and apparently it sells very well. Our only other stop for the day was at Beringer Brothers. This winery was recommended to Bill by a colleague. It was here that Bill decided that he was going to buy his first bottle of California wine. I fully expected that he would draw upon his acquired wine knowledge here. Upon entering the gift shop/wine ...
Napa, California, United States flyin_bayman... visited a total of 11 countries across two continents in exactly 60 days. During that time I visited 22 towns and cities and more importantly seven islands (not counting the UK). A satellite image of my trip(check out images on this entry) puts it all in perspective. Just about the entire trip: from Omaha Beach to the ruins of Ankor Wat exist on a single land mass. That's crazy. Clearly, there is a lot more to be seen and I plan on seeing some of it ...
San Francisco, California, United States jearner... we went to Sterling Winery where we got a tour of an actual winery and got educated on the wine making process. That was interesting, though I don't think I'd go through that again since I'm not a wine connoisseur, yet. I will say that after sampling the wine reserves at Sterling after our tour, I like white wines better than reds by far. After looking around the Spanish estate that is Sterling a bit longer, we took the gondola back down the ...
Napa, California, United States ilchicag... Regency in LA. The train journey was uneventful an we got into Bakersfield and transferred to our bus and then got dropped off in downtown LA but I will leave it their and post up our LA stories soon. It will probably be from The Cook Islands before we are back again unless I get the photos developed today which if so I will pop in and post them up tomorrow. Hope you are all still well - keep up your emails. Take care and we will speak soon Lots of Love as always Simon and Liz xxxxxx
