Bus Tour
Breakfast was wonderful, and included with the room. Our hotel is VERY centrally located, we're just around the corner from a few major Gaudi homes. Christopher is in heaven. The architecture of Barcelona is charming and quite unique.
Our first excursion was to see the city via the tourist bus. So, we braved the heat, sat in the open air …
Barcelona
... Once arriving at the medical facility Gaudi waits another 24 hours before any medical treatment is administered. Why the trouble for such a famous architect? Well because he was living in the Cathedral while working on construction plans, his appearance had changed considerably over the years. When he would go outside, no one would have been able to recognize him. When brought to the hospital he was just passed of as another street person and as a result was ...
Bus in Barcelona
Well, Alfredo woke up early. 0730. He is off to buy the tickets while I get ready. Here we go again.
More later.
Off to the bus and guess where we ate. Yes. Again. Ughhh
Got on the bus. 2 routes this time. 4 1/2 hrs on the first one. 3 1/2 on the second. There were some sites to see, but not nearly like Paris or London. The prices here are a bit lower, but our dollar is not worth anything. It cost 250 dollars to ...
Beautiful Barcelona
... Brighton. This tour was awesome as it took us back to S.F and to the main Gaudi buildings. We also saw the beach which is entirely man made and visited a really beautiful park, along with the Arc due Triomf. The guide told us how to get to Park Guell so we headed there after the tour. The park was incredible. I have to admit I hadn't really heard of Gaudi prior to going to Barcelona but his work is amazing. This rounded off a massive day so we had a night ...
Zara and pork cheek
... walked a lot today and it was a beautiful day ... most likely around 80 degrees. We shopped @ Zara (yea!) and H&M (good call) and had lunch outside (she ate pork cheek - eeeeew!). We layed on the grass in the park and popped into little cafes for beers. I bought a few gifts to take home and she was gifted several items, which she is very grateful to have.
Nothing crazy or out of ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Husa Avenida Palace Barcelona
Perfect hotel for short break.
We have just returned from an Easter break to Barcelona, staying at the Avenida Palace Hotel. This is a great hotel in a perfect central location - a few minutes walk from Las Ramblas. We had requested a front facing room and were offered a wonderful room, complete with large terrace with views over the city. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the buffet breakfast was superb! This hotel is certainly worth its four stars - we would definitely stay here again.
Perfect
Everything you want from a hotel.
polite helpful service nice room perfect location and a great breakfast
Excellent hotel
The Avenida Palace is a great hotel. The location was superb, about two minutes walk from La Ramblas and surrounded by good shops and bars.
Fortunately, we booked when there was a promotion for all rooms at the beginning of January. For 90 euros a night, we were given a double room with a king size bed with a fantastic city view. I had requested a room overlooking the city when i booked and the Reservations Dept advised me that this was unlikely as they were quite full, but would try to allocate an external room. Therefore, I would suggest that you make this request, when you book as they obviously listen and we did have a brilliant room. The staff on the front desk speak good English, but were not very chatty. The chambermaids and doormen were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again (but look out for the promotional offers!)
Great hotel great location great city!
The location is perfect with metro station right in front of hotel and Plaza Catalunya 3 minutes walk, while quiet and safe at night. Pay extra for front facing rooms as traffic noise is no problem due to double glazing. Breakfast was good and staff courteous but not intrusive. Rooms were kept spotless and sheets and towels changed daily. We would definatly stay here again. Christmas here was great and seemed far less commercial and TV orientated than at home.Christmas day was just hoards of families out promenading in the parks and marina area enjoying the warm winter sunshine. What bliss and what a wonderful city. We WILL be back.
Nice place good location
i went to spain in feb 2003. this is very nice hotel. good breakfast.
great location. i would go back
Perfect location and good quality
The location can't be beat: in the new town but very close to Las Ramblas and all the action. The rooms are OK for the price, but the interior (quiet) rooms tend to be small and dark. But they have all the modern amenities and who spends time in their room in Barcelona?
Not bad
The hotel entrance is quite impressive as is the foyer, but im afraid it really ends there. The suite that i asked for was small and a bit on the shabby side. The staff were ok but having read some of the other reviews,a particular concierge did have a tendency to look at you as if you had just crawled out from under a stone. The location of the hotel is very good, however for the money you pay im sure there are better hotels..Personaly i wouldnt stay there again although my seven year old did ehjoy the revolving door. A stay of my dreams
My husband surprised me with a two week trip of my dreams during the year of our 20th anniversary, in 1998. It consisted of a European Cruise for 1 week and 1 week in Spain (4 nights in Barcelona, 3 in Sitges)
On a whim and without research, he chose this hotel and I am so happy that he did. The Avenida Palace was constructed in the late 19th century. It is an example of European Architecture at it's finest. The Website of the hotel has beautiful pictures but trust me, it's when you see it with your own eyes, you can then truly appreciate the work and the beauty of this hotel. The iron work is so beautiful. The rooms are wonderful too.
We did get free breakfast which is of course usually a normal offering in all european hotels. However, you can not get wine with your breakfast just anywhere you know! Our room faced the city and was clean and quiet. We certainly had a wonderul stay. I too would go back if I could.
So enjoy your stay. If you love architecture, you will love Barcelona!
This hotel is within walking distance of many monuments and we never took a taxi (except one of those tourist buses) the whole time we were there. If you have any questions, just email me!
Enjoy.

The Old "Bait and Switch"
Avenida Palace is in a perfect location and the free breakfast is great. However, we had a written conformation of a large room & bed w/ a city view. Our room was an interior room and was slightly larger than my 1 car garage. I had to turn sideways to walk between the desk & the table at the foot of the bed. The "window" faced a room 25 feet across an opening in the center of the building. We could not even judge the weather through this window. We showed the front desk our confirmation. The clerk pulled out their fee schedule and told us that, "We were lucky to have the room that we had," and that, "Our room was heaven and we would die if we saw the other ones. She also said that the city views (the best rooms) only have twin beds. That seems unlikely to me. The building looks great with its old Euro decor & architecture, but we heard every sound above, below and around us made by other guests. Also, there was the ever present scent of cigarette smoke wafting through the vents. There are so many nice hotels in that immediate area. Keep searching and pay for your own breakfast.
Superb
