Whilst friends enjoy the first day opening of some resorts in the Alps and Americans struggle to get out of their homes, I am walking each day in shirt-sleeves and temperatures of 21 degrees. ... it was one of the best 12 miles we had ever walked…..a perfect day.


We had a more chilled out day on friday before setting off on Saturday on our first bike ride of the trip in search of the Col d’Aspin, one of the Category 1 Tour de France climbs from 2012. As we left Lourdes behind, a glance over our left shoulders towards the Pyrenees revealed the places where we had such a good time, covered with snow. Proper thick snow, that although undoubtable beautiful, would have wrecked the riding of the last few days.

Its been truly magical, we have been so lucky.

... if you wanted. There were so many religious shops selling everything religious you can think of right next to each other. There would have had to be about 100 of them in Lourdes. We also saw so many priests and nuns in full outfits strolling around. Prayers, masses, rosary and confession go all day every day. You can buy candles that are 2m high to put at the alters.
