... It took 400 men 27 years to carve these 60ft faces - 1927-1943, costing $1m. There is an avenue of flags, and a huge amphitheatre, preceding a stage in front of the mountain. A 10 minute freedom based speech, a short film on the Presidents and the carving process and then the lights go on the carvings as the national anthem is ...

After leaving Mitchell our next stop was the Badlands National Park. We have driven through the Badlands on two other occasions. The scenery did not disappoint and we snapped many a photo of the rugged landscape and of the cute little prairie dogs living in the ...

The scale is much larger than Rushmore, with all 4 President's head able to fit into Crazy Horse's head.

Another long day saw us finishing around 8.30 pm so pizza and bed!

We went out next morning for a drive to Mount Rushmore before heading to the Badlands. We decided to drive the wildlife loop in Custer State Park and glad we did. We saw one bison on the early part of the main road then headed east over the loop. Clear day with not much breeze. going to be about 75 in black hills area.

About half way along, we encountered ...

Now that we're settled into Hart Ranch, most days won't be as interesting as when we're traveling on the road. Today I didn't even swim but had an appointment at the hair salon for a color and cut. While I was having a morning at the spa, Murray toured around Canyon Lake. After lunch we drove around downtown Rapid City and I saw shopping possibilities at Main Street Square. My hair ...
