Last day in Athens
Had a big day walking...first to the 1896 Olympic Arena, then through the National Garden which also contains the Exhibition Building. After that we visited several historic sites and saw lots of ruins. We saw the Roman Agora and Hadrian's Library before stopping for a very enjoyable lunch at Cafe Miandros in Monastriaki. After that we looked …
Acropolis and Museum, Parliament, City Sights
Refreshed from our jet lag, we started the day with breakfast downstairs in the hotel. We were served cappuccinos by the waiter who then specially squeezed orange juice for us and we helped ourselves to a selection of treats from the buffet. Straight after breakfast we headed off on foot to see the Acropolis which is just up on the hill behind our …
Dubai to Athens
The visibility taking off from Dubai was terrible. Not sure whether it's smog or dust but the air quality looks very poor. For the first couple of hours we flew over the most godforsaken country I have ever seen. It was extremely flat, sandy looking wasteland and yet there appeared to be a lot of roads...(in hindsight I believe it was Iraq). …
Wait, where's the room service?
Today was all about climbing steps. Past the Theater of Dionysos, around the Odeion of Pericles (bigger theater), marching up through the Propylaia (entry) and beyond the Temple of Athena Nike...and then it is still uphill but we are on the Acropolis. The Parthenon was worth the climb. (My Fitbit said we walked up 22 stories for the day …
Athens - It's All Greek to Me
I got to the Samos Island airport at 6:30 a.m for my 7:40 a.m. flight only to find out the flight to Thessaloniki on the mainland had been canceled. So rather than take a 5 hour train ride from Thessaloniki to Athens in the afternoon (which I really wanted to do so I could see the Greek countryside), I found myself on a plane heading to Athens. By …

Location is fabulous and staff couldn't be more helpful. Room was clean and luxuriously appointed. Only downside is small size of shower and lack of a shelf. We were even provided breakfast at 3:15 in the morning before heading for the airport.

Historical Traveler Reviews AVA Hotel Athens
The Wonderful Ava
My wife and I stayed at the Ava on 16,17,18 and 19th June 2005, and had a truly wonderful time, the Hotel and its Staff were superb. We booked what the hotel calls a regular apartment but was in our opinion a luxury one. the furniture and fittings were of the highest standard. I can recommend the Ava as a first class hotel for a memorable stay in Athens.
The hotel is at the edge of Plaka, quiet, but 2 minutes away from the vibrant heart of Athens, as well as close to all Athenian sights and sounds. We will be booking for 2006 as soon as we can.
Highly recommended by Susie and David Simpson, North Yorkshire, UK.
Hotel personnel went thru our luggage and STOLE items
Our first impression was excellent. We could not have been happier, great location & great accomodations- perfection. Although the website says all rooms have verandas with a view of the acropolis - not true. Half the rooms have a view of a dirty alley and when we were there the hotel did not appear close to full and we were given an alley room. But that was forgiveable, what happened our second night wasn't.
We returned after a full day away sightseeing in Delphi to get ready for dinner, my husband noticed some of his clothes looked like they had been moved and his coat had definitely been taken out of the suitcase and set next to it- but we thought maybe the cleaning personnel had accidentally moved it. After dinner we returned to pack because we were leaving at 6 am. My husband's $150 leather sandals were not in his suitcase anymore. (They had definitely been there that morning because we discussed him wearing them sightseeing)
The hotel's only response was that they could call the police. With 6 hours left in Athens, that really was an unacceptable answer. We were told that their staff was trustworthy and would not have done that, in essense calling us liars, trying to get something for nothing. We would have appreciated at the very least an apology.
We hate to leave this review b/c the hotel was great otherwise, maybe if you decide to stay there I recommend to NOT use the maid service.
We sincerely regret the guest's unfounded accusations.
A gem of a hotel/apartment!
What a gem of a hotel/apartment! From the friendly and helpful front desk staff of Maria, Eleni, George and the others, to the spacious, updated sparkling-clean rooms, to the fabulous location in the Plaka (with a great view of the Acropolis and Hadrian's Arch from the balcony and within walking distance to all of the major sites), this is a first-rate property at a reasonable rate. The peronalized service we received made us feel like we were the only ones staying there. AVA is the place to stay in Athens!
Excellent hotel
My wife and i have just returned from a trip to Athens and a stay at the AVA hotel. We thought the hotel was excellent. Its location is superb, within walking distance of all the attractions. The rooms were spacious and our view of the accropolis capped a wonderful trip. The staff were friendly and could not do enough to help us with arranging trips and local advise.
The breakfast was great and set us up for the day.
We hope to return to Athens again and will definately be booking the AVA hotel again!
And Its Reasonably Priced,...
Stayed here few days in June after returning from Greek Islands. Excellent location but more importantly, excellent service and accomodation. Helpful 24/7 staff and beautifully finished decor. Modern rooms with hi-speed internet, kitchenette and roomy bathroom. Balcony with street view of Hadrian's Arch at the East end and the Acropolis opposite. In the area of Plaka most worth visiting, (close to best bits).
Friendly, spacious, well-located
A very well kept hotel, excellent position near the Acropolis and not far from Syntagma Metro Station (direct connection to Airport). Easy walking distance to the tavernas and shops of the old Plaka area. Recently refurbished with spacious modern rooms/apartments with kitchen facilities. Front apartments have balconies with views of the Acropolis. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet a bit minimal but OK. Not a good place to come with a car as I don't think there is parking and street parking is difficult. We were travelling as a family and it worked well for us.
Fully enjoyed my stay
Nice small hotel, friendly personnel. Really impressed with the spacious apartment. Everything is on walking distance from the hotel. I definetely will be back!
Perfect Location
Perfect location, excellent accommodation in the middle of beautiful Plaka. Full view of Acropolis an other Greek monuments. Spacious and luxurious Apartments. Fully recommended.
