Travel Blogs from Salzburg
Well we left the Hotel Kaiserhoff this morning at 8.50 for the main train station. In hindsight I wish we had chosen to take all travel through Europe on the train system as it is so wonderful and guaranteed no turbulence !! Seriously though, lol. The trains throughout Europe are lovely, very relaxing, the sights along the way are divine and it is …
Breakfast at 8.15am then packed our bags and waited in the hotel foyer to be picked up for the Sound of Music Tour. We got picked up at 9.20am and were driven in a minibus 500m to Mirabellplatz to board our coach for the tour.
We got good seats and the tour departed at 9.40am. Drove through Salzburg past the castle to Leopoldskron Castle …
We took the train for about 2 hours from Munich to Salzburg. When we arrived, we dropped our stuff off at our hotel before heading out to explore the city. We first went to St. Sebastian's Church where mass had just taken place and the church was filled with incense! We walked around the cemetery as well where there were graves with extravagant …
I was really looking forward to our train ride to Salzburg. Unfortunately it turned out to be a bit of a shambles but I was not going to let it ruin my day (even though it did upset Andrew somewhat who thought the whole journey was a disaster). In fact, I actually enjoyed our little adventure and found it rather amusing.
We got on the …
Left Vienna at 10.20am and passed through some scenic country including snow-capped mountains as we entered Salzburg at 1.50pm.
We walked out of the station on our way to our hotel when an old lady approached asking if we spoke English. We told her we did and she asked if we were looking for a hostel. We told her that we had already …

Historical Traveler Reviews Austrotel Salzburg
Good Stay in Salzburg
When we checked into the hotel, there was a mishap with the reservation. However, the hotel was very accomodating and found us a room. The room was a little sparse, but accomodating. One minor negative is the hotel can be noisy, depending on the room. Our room was a corner room, and we heard a lot of street noise. The location is good, very close to Mirabelle Gardens. However, it is about a 10 minute walk from the "downtown" shopping area. If I were in Salzburg again, I personally might try to stay on the other side of the river. However, I cannot fault the staff, they were very friendly.
Excellent stay,good price
superb hotel at excellent price. stayed for 3 nights. minutes from old town and sights. really cosy rooms and comfy beds. feast for breakfast, spoilt for choice. very friendly staff, if in salzburg will definitely stay again. found best price on ryan air own site, but pays to shop around
We stayed here for 3 nights - lovely large room, very clean. Breakfast was huge (enough to not have a lunch) - continental. Very pleasant & friendly staff. Good location to the Mirabell gardens and Mozarts Mueseum. Walking into the town is about 5-10 mins. Perfect hotel for sightseeing.
We have just returned from Salzburg (15th March 2005) and stayed at the Austrotel. I have just read all the previous reviews, and they are very accurate, with the Hotel getting a very high rating indeed. We are a family of 4 with the Children age 10 and 11, it is nearly impossible to find somewhere economical to stay in Salzburg, without having to book two seperate rooms, which escalate the cost dramatically. The Austrotel manages to supply lovely large family rooms with full sized beds for the children at no extra cost. We paid 140 Euro's a night for our family including a superb breakfast which was served in a lovely traditional setting. I tried to find a cheaper deal on the net, but found that by e-mailing the hotel directly was the best method. On arrival I was pleasantly suprised to find that it was situated just across the road from the Mirabell gardens, of sound of music fame, and a short walk to the River Salzbach, with the bridges to the old town (the picturesque side of Salzburg). The Reception Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, especially as they seemed to be fully employed running the hotel. If I had to give a mild critcism it would be there is no restaurant for lunch / evening in case you do not want to go out. Hardly a problem in Salzburg though with its many bars and eating places.
Just returned from a two night stay at the Austrotel Salzburg. Booked a single room which was spacious, well furnished and had excellent ensuite facilities. Room was lovely and warm, which was great as it was snowing heavily outside and the temperatures were very low! The hotel is in a great location, just a couple of minutes walk to the old town. Hotel staff were extremely helpful and spoke excellent English, which really helped me out as my German is non existant! The hotel has a free internet access point, just ask at reception. Buffet style breakfast was excellent with a wonderful choice and variety. Really enjoyed my stay here in Salzburg and plan to return in the near future and the Austrotel is where I will be staying.
Booked the Austrotel with HotelConnect, straightforward easy booking. Staff very helpful and friendly with nothing too much trouble. Would definately stay there again. Good central location. Rooms clean and well furnished. Excellent choice and high standard of breakfast. The hotel receptionist willingly booked two seperate trips on the snow shuttle for us. Ensure if you go on the snow shuttle (depart 08:30 prompt), you have plenty of money and passport or credit card with you if you intend to hire ski equipment. Snow shuttle ok if you intend to ski but if you only go for a general look around in the ski resort area it can become tedious. If you venture too far and are late for the coach back you are told not to worry as they will return to pick you up - on their return to the same area the following week!
The austrotel was a very good platform from which to see the fantastic Salzburg.
Romantic European hotel
This is a lovely hotel a short block from where you can pick up day trips such as the Sound of Music Tour. The Mirabelplatz Garden is just down the street. Our room was large and the bathroom was huge! The decor in our room reminded my friend of the way Europe was back in our romantic youth in the 1970's. Delicious breakfast served each morning.
Nice hotel, delicious breakfast
Very nice hotel, within walking distance to the old city. It is located accross the street from Mirabell Palace and Gardens. Breakfast is delicious and fulfilling, staff is friendly, rooms are clean and nicely decorated.
Hotel was well placed directly opposite the Mirabell Gardens and a short walk from the Old Town. Rooms were large and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. Tours could be booked from the front desk and there was also free internet access.
